The King Abdullah II Stadium ( Arabic ملعب الملك عبد الله الثاني) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Jordanian city of Al-Quwaisima in Amman Governorate . The facility is located around 10 kilometers southeast of the center of the capital Amman and offers 18,000 places. It is the home ground of the al-Wihdat football club from the Jordan League . The Jordanian national football team also plays international matches in this stadium .
history
The building was opened in 1998. It was named after the Jordanian King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein and is the second largest stadium in the country after the Amman International Stadium . The surrounding stadium walls make the building look like a fortress . In 2000, all the games of the first-ever West Asian Cup were played here. The facility was renovated for the 2010 West Asian Cup . At this tournament it was the only venue. In 2016, along with three other stadiums, it hosted the U-17 Women's World Cup . It found u. a. the two semi-finals take place. Two years later, next to the Amman International Stadium, games of the 2018 Asian Women's Soccer Championship were played in the King Abdullah II Stadium. Here too, in addition to the group matches, the stadium was the venue for the semi-finals.
