The finals of the 19th women's soccer Asian Cup took place in Jordan from April 6 to 20, 2018 . Jordan received the approval for the event in September 2016. It is the first event in a West Asian country. Eight teams competed against each other first in a group stage in two groups and then in the knockout system . In addition to the Asian champion, the five Asian participants in the 2019 World Cup in France were determined. Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand qualified as in 2015. The venues were the King Abdullah II Stadium and the Amman International Stadium , both in Amman , the capital of Jordan.
In the group stage there were two groups with four participants each. Within the groups, each team played against each other. The winner of each match received three points, the loser none, and in the event of a tie, each received one point.
The placement within the groups was determined using the following criteria in descending order of importance:
Group game points
Points from duels between teams with equal points (decisive for China being the group winner after 2 matchdays)
Goal difference from duels between teams with equal points
Number of goals scored from duels between teams with equal points (decisive for Australia and Japan to reach the semi-finals and South Korea to play for 5th place)
If necessary, exclusive application of the previous criteria to teams that are then still of equal value
Goal difference from all games (decisive for Australia to be group winners)
Number of goals scored in all games
Penalty shoot-out if two equally ranked teams had met in the last group game
lower number of minus points through yellow and red cards (yellow card 1 minus point, yellow-red card 3 minus points, red card 4 minus points, yellow and red card 5 minus points)
Drawing of lots
Preliminary round
The preliminary round groups were drawn on December 9, 2017 at the Dead Sea , the lowest point on earth.
