Yuika Sugasawa ( Japanese 菅 澤 優 衣 香 , Sugasawa Yuika ; born October 5, 1990 in Chiba Prefecture ) is a Japanese national soccer player .

Career

Sugasawa began her career with first division club Albirex Niigata , where she played from 2008 to 2012. For the 2013 season, she moved to league rivals JEF United Ichihara Chiba , where she was the top scorer of the L. League in 2014 .

National team

Sugasawa made her debut in the Japanese senior team on January 13, 2010 against the selection of Denmark , but was initially also used in the U-20 selection of their country, for example in the U-20 World Cup of women in Germany in 2010 . At the Asian Cup in 2014 , she won the title with her national team with a 1-0 final victory over Australia . At the FIFA World Cup 2015 Sugasawa also participated and completed all group matches in Japan. She scored her first World Cup goal against Cameroon . In the final round she was substituted on for midfielder Nahomi Kawasumi only once, in the final against the USA when the score was 1: 4 in the 39th minute , but could not turn the game around. Japan then lost the world title 2: 5.

In 2018 , she met Australia again in the final of the Asian Cup and won 1-0 with her team.

Four months later, she was also on the roster for the 2018 Asian Games . In the final against China she was substituted on in the 56th minute and scored the only goal of the game in the 90th minute - her fourth tournament goal, making Japan the tournament winner for the second time.
