Rumi Utsugi ( Japanese 宇津木 瑠 美 , Utsugi Rumi ; born December 5, 1988 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese national soccer player .
Club career
Utsugi played from 2002 to 2007 with NTV Beleza in the highest Japanese league. In 2010 she moved to the French first division club HSC Montpellier . After her contract in France expired, Utsugi joined Seattle Reign FC in July 2016 .
National team
Utsugi completed her first international match for the Japanese national team on May 21, 2005 against New Zealand . She scored her first goal for Japan on March 10, 2008 against Russia . Utsugi played two of six games for Japan at the 6th Women's World Cup in 2011 in Germany.
It was also nominated for the 2015 World Cup and was used in all seven games, with it being used in six games. Only in the last group game against Ecuador, when coach Norio Sasaki spared some regular players, was she not considered. She played in the group matches first in the back four on the left and switched to defensive midfield in the knockout round, where she formed the double six with Mizuho Sakaguchi and was named "Player of the Game" in the quarterfinal match against Australia. Only in the final did Japan play with a 4-4-2 tactic, which went wrong, because after 16 minutes it was 0: 4.
