Mizuho Sakaguchi ( Japanese 阪 口 夢 穂 , Sakaguchi Mizuho ; born October 15, 1987 in Sakai , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese national soccer player .
Club career
Sakaguchi played in the 2003/04 season for the club Speranza Takatsuki , then two years for FC Perure Tasaki . She moved to the US club Indiana Lionesses FC in March 2009 . There, her cruciate ligament tore on her left knee during training, which is why she was rarely used. Since 2010 she has been playing in Japan again, first for the Albirex Niigata Ladies and since 2012 for NTV Beleza .
National team
Sakaguchi played her first international game for Japan on July 19, 2006 against Vietnam at the Asian Women's Cup . She scored a goal on her debut. Sakaguchi was also in the squad for the 5th Women's World Cup in 2007 , she didn't play. She completed all six games for Japan at the 6th Women's World Cup in 2011 in Germany.
Sakaguchi was also part of the Japanese squad for the London Olympics . It was used in all six games, u. a. in the final, lost 1: 2 against the USA , and won the silver medal with their team.
At the 2014 Asian women's football championship , she was one of the top six goalscorers in Japan with two goals she scored in the group game against Jordan and won the Asian championship for the first time. Japan had already qualified for the 2015 World Cup when they reached the semi-finals.
It was then also nominated for the World Cup and used in two group games and the four games of the final round. Only in the last group game, when coach Norio Sasaki spared some regular players, she was not used. In the round of 16 against the Netherlands , she scored the intermittent 2-0 goal and was named “Player of the Game” after the game. In the final against the USA, however, she could not set any accents and lost with 2: 5.
At the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games , she played her 100th international match in the last game against North Korea, as did Yukari Kinga . The Japanese missed the Olympic Games as third of the tournament.
In 2018 she was able to defend the title of Asian champion won in 2014 with the national team. In the last group game against Australia she scored the goal to make it 1-0. Although the Australians were able to equalize four minutes before the end of the game, Japan qualified for the semifinals and the 2019 World Cup with the 1-1 draw.
