Lydia Grace Yilkari Williams (born May 13, 1988 in Katanning ) is an Australian soccer player who also has US citizenship. In the southern summer she plays in Australia, in the northern summer in the NWSL .

Career

societies

In 2008, Williams was in Canberra United's first squad in the newly founded W-League and played there, interrupted by a short loan to the USA to the Chicago Red Stars , until 2012. Her first final season in Canberra was crowned with the Championship title of the 2011/12 season. For the 2012 season she moved to the Swedish first division club Piteå IF , and returned to Canberra after two seasons there. For the 2014 season she joined the NWSL participant Western New York Flash , whose previous goalkeeper Adrianna Franch had torn a cruciate ligament shortly before the start of the season. Williams suffered the same injury in July 2014. After her rehab, she played for her old club Canberra United in the 2015/16 season and moved again to the Houston Dash franchise in the United States for the 2016 season of the NWSL . Since 2017 she has played for Seattle Reign FC ( Reign FC from 2019) during the Australian winter . In the 2018 season she remained clean in ten games and reached the NWSL Championship play-offs with Seattle as third in the regular season, but lost there in the semifinals with 1: 2 against Portland Thorns FC . In the Australian summer she was fifth of the regular season with Melbourne City FC and missed the play-offs of the four best teams.

National team

Williams was part of the Australian U-20 national team, with which she took part in the U-20 World Cup in 2006 and was there in three games. With the Australian senior team she took part in the Asian Football Championships in 2006 and 2010 , with Australia winning the title for the first time in 2010. In 2011, like in 2007, she was in her country's squad at the World Cup in Germany and played there in the preliminary round match against Equatorial Guinea . In May 2014 she was nominated for the 2014 Asian women's soccer championship . She was used in four out of five games and reached the final against world champions Japan with her team , but could not defend the title. The team had already qualified for the 2015 World Cup when they reached the semi-finals. On May 12, 2015, she was nominated for the 2015 Australian World Cup squad after a healed cruciate ligament tear . At the World Cup she was on the bench in the first group game, which was lost 3-1 to eventual world champions USA , from the second group game she was in goal and remained clean against Nigeria and against Brazil in the round of 16 . The end came in the quarter-finals against defending champions Japan against whom they lost 1-0 as in the Asian Cup.

They could then take revenge at the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games , where they defeated the Japanese 3-1 and qualified for the Olympic Games, whereas the Japanese missed the Games. In Brazil she was used in two group games and in the quarter-finals against the hosts, of which the Australians could not win, but only missed the semifinals by losing on penalties .

At the 2018 Asian women's football championship , she was used in the group matches against South Korea and Japan and in the final against Japan, none of which the Australians could win. With a win against Vietnam, however, the Australians had reached the semi-finals and thus qualified for the 2019 World Cup, for which they were nominated on May 14, 2019. She was used in the first game against Italy and after a mistake in the fifth minute of stoppage time, she had to accept the goal to make it 2-1.
