The finals of the 17th Women's Asian Football Championship (officially: AFC Women's Asian Cup 2010 ) took place from May 19-30, 2010 in the Chinese city of Chengdu . It was the second time that China had hosted the Asian Cup since 1997. Eight teams competed against each other first in a group stage in two groups and then in the knockout system . In addition to the Asian champions, the three Asian participants in the 2011 World Cup in Germany were determined. The Asian champions became Australia for the first time , which had only been part of the Asian Association since 2006, but had already participated in 1975 and 1979. This was the second time that a team that did not belong to Asia became Asian champions. First New Zealand succeeded in the first edition in 1975 .
