The tournament was awarded to Jordan at the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on December 5, 2013.

It was the first FIFA tournament to be held in Jordan. 16 teams took part in the tournament, initially in four groups and then in a knockout system .

qualification

The starting places were allocated on June 23, 2014.

The qualification in Asia took place at the U-16 Asian Cup in Wuhan ( People's Republic of China ) from November 4th to 15th, 2015. Eight teams took part in the final, which first played in two groups of four teams, of which the group winners and second reached the semi-finals. By reaching the final, defending champions Japan and the juniors from North Korea were able to qualify for the World Cup alongside World Cup hosts Jordan.

The three participants provided by UEFA were determined at the U-17 European Women's Championship from May 4 to 16, 2016 in Belarus . Germany and Spain qualified as finalists . As the last team, England qualified in the game for third place against Norway, which missed participation for the fifth time.

The qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF zone was the CONCACAF U-17 championship , which was held from March 3 to 13, 2016 in Grenada in a final round with eight teams. The two finalists and the third-placed team qualified for the World Cup. The three places went to the finalists from Mexico and the USA and the third-placed team from Canada .

The South American participants were determined at the U-17 South American Football Championship for women in Venezuela from March 1 to 20, 2016. Ten teams took part in the final round, which first played in two groups of five teams, of which the group winners and second reached the final round. The top three teams in the final round qualified for the World Cup. With two wins in the final round, Brazil and Venezuela already qualified before the last game, in which both met and Venezuela defended the title they had won three years earlier with a 1-0 win. Third place went to Paraguay , who won against Colombia in the game of the teams without a win in the final round and finished third.

The three representatives from Africa were determined in a preliminary and two qualifying rounds, which were played in the first and second leg. Of the three pairings in the preliminary round, two did not take place because the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon withdrew, so that Djibouti and Sierra Leone reached the first qualifying round without a fight. In addition, Namibia prevailed against Botswana. Of the six pairings in the first qualifying round, three did not take place, as Mali, Zambia and Sierra Leone withdrew, so that Ghana, Morocco and South Africa reached the second qualifying round without a fight. On the other hand, Egypt against Djibouti, Cameroon against Ethiopia and Nigeria against Namibia reached the second qualifying round in a sporting way. This will take place from March 12th to 25th, 2016. The three winners of this round, Nigeria , Ghana and Cameroon qualified for the World Cup.

The U-17 women's national team from New Zealand took part as representatives from Oceania , winning the qualifying tournament, which was held from January 13 to 23, 2016, with 55-0 goals in five games.
