The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2018 (officially 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup ) was the sixth playout this competition for football players under 17 years (as of 1 January 2001) and was held from 13 November to 1st December 2018 in Uruguay . The tournament was awarded to Uruguay by the FIFA Council on May 10, 2016. The defending champion was North Korea, which won the title for the second time in 2016 and thus became a record winner.
It was the first FIFA women’s tournament to be held in Uruguay and the Uruguayans’s second participation since 2012. 16 teams took part in the tournament, initially in four groups and then in a knockout system .
With Spain, previously runner-up and twice third, a European team won for the second time. The placed Mexico, New Zealand and Canada achieved a place among the top four teams for the first time.
qualification
The starting places were allocated on November 11, 2016.
The qualification in Asia took place at the U-16 Asian Cup in Chon Buri ( Thailand ) from September 10 to 23, 2017. Eight teams took part in the final, which first played in two groups of four teams, of which the group winners and second reached the semi-finals. By reaching the final, the defending champions North Korea and the juniors from South Korea and Japan qualified for the World Cup in third place. It is the sixth participation for North Korea and Japan and the third for South Korea. All three were able to win the world title at least once.
The three participants provided by UEFA were determined at the U-17 European Women's Championship from 9 to 21 May 2018 in Lithuania . Germany and Spain qualified by reaching the final on May 18th, Finland secured third European starting position in the game for 3rd place against England on May 21st.
The CONCACAF U-17 championship , which started in Nicaragua in April 2018 , was canceled after six games after unrest in Nicaragua and continued in the United States in June, served as the qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF zone . Eight teams took part in the final round. The two finalists and the third-placed team qualified for the World Cup.
The South American participants were determined at the U-17 South American Football Championship for women in Argentina in March 2018. Ten teams could take part in the final round. The two teams placed first in the final round qualified for the World Cup. In addition, Uruguay is automatically qualified as a host. Brazil and Colombia secured the starting positions.
The three representatives from Africa were determined in a preliminary and two qualifying rounds, which were played in the first and second leg. Ten teams competed in the preliminary round from October 13th to 15th and October 27th to 29th, 2017. The winners met seven other teams in the first round. In the second round, the six winners of the first round then met in three pairings. The three winners of the second round qualified for the World Cup finals. Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa qualified in February 2018. Ghana has participated in all previous events; it is the second participation for Cameroon and South Africa.
As a representative from Oceania , the U-17 women's national team from New Zealand took part for the sixth time , winning the U-17 Oceania Championship from August 4 to 18, 2017 with 47-1 goals in five games, making it the first Team athletically qualified for the World Cup.

Group draw
The draw for the four groups took place on May 30, 2018 in Zurich . For this purpose, four lottery pots were created:
- Pot 1: Uruguay, Japan, North Korea DPR and Spain
- Pot 2: Germany, Ghana, CONCACAF 1, CONCACAF 2
- Pot 3: Brazil, New Zealand, CONCACAF 3, South Korea
- Pot 4: Colombia, South Africa, Cameroon, Finland
The CONCACAF representatives were not known until June 12th. Uruguay was automatically assigned to Group A in position 1. No group could have more than one representative of a confederation.
