The FIFA U-20 World Cup Women 2020 (officially 2020 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup ) to be in this competition for soccer players aged under 20, the tenth playout and should start in August 2020 in Costa Rica take place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the tournament on May 12, 2020 was postponed to spring 2021. 16 teams are to take part in the tournament, which will initially compete in four groups and then in the knockout system . The defending champions are the Japanese women who won the title for the first time in 2018.

Choice of host

On July 25, 2018, FIFA started the application process for this competition as well as the 2020 U-17 World Cup. FIFA members could express their interest in one or both competitions until August 24, 2018, but ultimately a country would only choose one of the can take part in both competitions. India and South Korea expressed their interest in holding the competitions. On March 15, 2019, India was chosen to host the U-17 World Cup 2020. India could not host the U-20 World Cup and after South Korea also withdrew, the application process was reopened. On July 19, 2019, FIFA President Gianni Infantino sent a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation . Whether Nigeria will be able to host the competition one year from now will be examined on a four-day inspection tour in August.

On December 20, 2019, the FIFA office confirmed that the World Cup would take place in Costa Rica and Panama in August 2020. It was to be FIFA's first youth tournament to be held in two host countries. On July 24, 2020, the Panamanian association announced that it was not available as a co-host because the necessary infrastructure was not available and public funds were being used for health care and pandemic control.

Qualifying competitions are the continental championships of the U-19 and U-20 age groups, which will be held in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
