In coordination with FIFA, the organizing national association FFF had determined the following locations and stadiums, each of which is located in one of the four Breton departments :

The official competition logo also emphasized this region , with a stylized lighthouse , triskele and ermine as well as the black and white stripes of the Breton flag in the center. In addition, with Camille Abily , Eugénie Le Sommer and Griedge Mbock Bathy, three female footballers were named as official tournament ambassadors who are biographically or athletically connected to Brittany.

The FFF had suggested the 16 participating teams during the entire duration of the tournament according to the idea of an Olympic village together centrally on the university - de Beaulieu campus in Rennes accommodate. However, FIFA preferred accommodation in different hotels to be booked by it.

draw

The draw for the four preliminary round groups took place on March 8, 2018 at the Rennes Opera House . This date was deliberately chosen by the organizers - it is International Women's Day . Host France was set as the head of preliminary group A. Two games always take place as a double event in the same stadium.

The qualified teams were divided into four pots, sorted according to their results over the past five years. In each preliminary group there should be one participant from each pot; In addition, care was taken to ensure that two teams from the same continental association were not drawn into the same group - with the exception of the UEFA representatives, because Europe had five participants in these World Cup finals.

  • Pot 1: France, Germany, Japan, North Korea
  • Pot 2: Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, USA
  • Pot 3: Brazil, China, Ghana, Spain
  • Pot 4: England, Haiti, Netherlands, Paraguay

The balls were drawn by four athletes from Brittany, including soccer player Camille Abily .

Group games

Regulations

In the groups, each team played against each other. There were three points for a win and one point for a draw. At the end of the group matches, the table order was determined according to the following criteria, whereby the first two qualified for the quarter-finals, while the tournament was over for the third and fourth:

  1. Number of points from all three matches
  2. Goal difference from all three encounters
  3. Number of hits from all three matches
  4. Number of points from the encounters between the women’s teams that are tied according to the preceding criteria
  5. Goal difference from the matches between the women who are tied according to the preceding criteria
  6. Number of hits in matches between the women’s teams that are tied according to the above criteria
  7. Number of yellow and red cards in all games ("fair play rating")
  8. Lots by the organizing committee

In the end, only the first two criteria were applied, with the second criterion only deciding in Group D on the placement of the teams from China and Nigeria with the same points.
