The FIFA U-17 World Cup Women 2021 (officially 2021 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup ) is the seventh playout this competition for football players under 17 years (as of 1 January 2003) and is dated 17 February to 7th March 2021 in India . The tournament was awarded to India by the FIFA Council on March 15, 2019. The defending champion is Spain, which won the title for the first time in 2019. The tournament was originally supposed to take place from November 2nd to 21st, 2020 as the “2020 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup”, but was then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

It is the first ever FIFA women’s tournament to be held in India. In 2017 the U-17 World Cup took place in India. 16 teams are to take part in the tournament, which will initially compete in four groups and then in the knockout system .

qualification

The qualification in Asia took place at the U-16 Asian Cup in Chon Buri ( Thailand ) from September 15 to 28, 2019. Eight teams took part in the final, which first played in two groups of four teams, of which the group winners and second reached the semi-finals. By reaching the finals, North Korea and Japan qualified for the World Cup. It is the seventh participation for North Korea and Japan. Both were able to win the world title at least once. In addition, there is host India, for which it is the first participation.

The three entrants provided by UEFA should be determined at the U-17 European Women's Championship in Sweden . After the elite round was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic , on August 14, UEFA selected England, Germany and Spain as World Cup participants based on their highest ranking coefficient: Germany will participate for the seventh time, Spain for the fifth and England for the third time .

The CONCACAF U-17 Championship , which was supposed to take place in Mexico from April 18 to May 3, 2020 , but was postponed indefinitely in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, serves as a qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF zone .

The South American participants will be determined at the U-17 South American Football Championship for women in Uruguay from November 30 to December 19, 2020. The tournament was originally supposed to take place in Venezuela from April 15 to May 3, 2020, but was then given to Uruguay on March 10. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , it was postponed nine days later, first to late summer (late August / early September) and then to late autumn (late November to mid-December).

The three representatives from Africa will be determined in a preliminary and two qualifying rounds, which were played in the first and second leg. 16 teams had registered for the preliminary round, but one of them (Namibia) withdrew before the start of the round for financial reasons and one (DR Congo) did not play for the first game, which meant that two teams went through without a fight. The round took place from January 10th to 26th, 2020. In the first qualifying round, the eight winners of the preliminary round and four teams directly qualified for the first round met between February 28 and March 14, 2020. Botswana did not play for the second leg against Morocco due to the COVID-19 pandemic after a 0-1 home defeat, which means that they are qualified for the second round. In the second round, which will take place from October 30th to November 20th, 2020, the three participants for the tournament in India will be determined. This is where South Africa and Morocco, Uganda and Cameroon as well as Nigeria and Ghana meet.

As a representative from Oceania , the U-17 women's national team from New Zealand will take part for the seventh time , which was nominated by the OFC as a representative of Oceania after the U-17 Oceania Championship 2020, which should take place in April 2020, because of COVID-19 Pandemic has been canceled.
