Was thought of in the days of British rule in force there Chaibagaan - or Bagaan -time that the time zone UTC + 6: 30 correspond. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka (then still under the name Ceylon ) also joined the UTC + 5:30 time zone after independence in 1946. Since the 1980s there have been considerations to change the Sri Lanka Time in order to make better use of daylight and to save energy. On May 25, 1996 the Sri Lankan time zone was changed to UTC + 6: 30 , i.e. H. the clocks were put forward one hour. The government wanted to counter a serious energy crisis. On October 26, 1996, the changeover to UTC + 6 took place . H. the clocks were put back half an hour. On April 15, 2006, Sri Lanka rejoined the UTC + 5: 30 time zone, i.e. H. synchronized its time with Indian standard time. In the Tamil Tigers- controlled parts of the north-east of Sri Lanka, the time change from 1996 had never been implemented.
