  • UTC − 12 is a zone time that has 180 degrees of longitude as the reference meridian. On watches with this zone time, it is twelve hours earlier than Coordinated Universal Time and thirteen hours earlier than CET . The only time zones with this zone time are International Date Line West (IDLW) right on the date line and Baker Island Time (BIT). The area is the place on earth where a certain date ends last and a new one begins - namely 26 hours after UTC + 14 in eastern Kiribati and (in the southern summer time) Samoa . Deadlines without specifying a location are the last to run here, which has earned the area of this time zone the designation Anywhere on Earth (AOE, somewhere on earth ).

There are only two - uninhabited - islands in IDLW, Baker Island and Howland Island . The zone time immediately to the west with UTC + 12 uses the same reference meridian on the other side of the date line. The two zone times have a time difference of 24 hours. Therefore the same time applies, but a date that is different by one day. It is therefore eleven hours later than CET on local clocks .

There are inhabited islands west of the above two. Islands are located and have a time zone east of the date line, but a time zone with a smaller deviation from UTC applies on them: On the Midway Islands located a little west of these two islands , on which only scientific staff live, the time zone UTC − 11 applies . The Aleutian Islands lie partly considerably further to the west and cause the only bulging of the date line to the west. Their westernmost inhabited island is Shemya , but Adak and Atka are also inhabited and lie west of the Howland and Baker Islands. You have the time zone UTC − 10 and also daylight saving time ( UTC − 9 ).
