UTC + 8: 30 is a zone time that has the longitude semicircle 127.5 ° East as the reference meridian. On watches with this zone time, it is eight and a half hours later than Coordinated Universal Time and seven and a half hours later than CET . The time zone is currently no longer used.

Korea

The Korean Empire introduced a Korean Standard Time UTC + 8: 30 in 1908 . It was abolished in 1912 by the occupying power Japan and the Japan standard time UTC + 9 was introduced in Korea. After the Korean War , South Korea introduced UTC + 8: 30 in 1954 , but abolished this time again in 1961.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of Japanese colonial rule in North Korea , which lasted from 1910 to 1945, North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un decided to abolish the UTC + 9 time zone introduced by the Japanese and, on August 15, 2015, Pyongyang time UTC + 8:30 (= Korea Standard Time ). South Korea remained in the previous time zone. On May 5, 2018, North Korea switched back to the time zone UTC + 9, which was understood as a sign of the rapprochement with South Korea.

China

From 1912, time zones were officially introduced in China . The country was divided into five zones, namely GMT + 5: 30 , GMT + 6 , GMT + 7 , GMT + 8 and GMT + 8: 30. After the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party took power in mainland China . The now existing People's Republic of China introduced a common time zone (UTC + 8) for the entire claimed territory .
