Trivia

  • With 30,250 spectators, the opening match between Azerbaijan and Colombia and the previous match between Nigeria and Canada, which was held in a double event, set a new attendance record.
  • In the game North Korea against Gambia, the North Koreans first outbid the record for U-17 World Cup matches at 11-0, which the German team had set up on September 8, 2010 at 10-1 against South Africa, or set the record the German team had set up on September 10, 2007 in the game against Argentina at the 2007 Women's World Cup for women's World Cup games. On September 25, Nigeria set both records in an 11-0 win against Azerbaijan.
  • Chinwendu Ihezuo (Nigeria) is the first player to score five goals in a U-17 World Cup game. She beat the previous record of four goals set by Kyra Malinowski (Germany) and Yeo Minji (South Korea) at the 2010 World Cup.
  • At 13 years and 267 days, Sainey Sissohore (Gambia) was the youngest player in the history of the tournament when she played against North Korea. Since she also scored the second goal for Gambia in the game against France, she is also the youngest goalscorer in the history of the tournament.
  • Gabriela Gonzalez (Uruguay) is the first goalkeeper in the history of the tournament to receive a red card .
  • After the hosts were eliminated in the group stage with New Zealand in 2008 and Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, hosts Azerbaijan could not survive the group stage in 2012 either. Azerbaijan is also the first team to go without a goal and the first host to be eliminated with three defeats.
  • By beating Mexico, Brazil has won at least once against Mexico in all FIFA women's tournaments (including the Olympic Games).
  • The match between France and Gambia scored the 10-2 most goals in the history of the tournament.
  • For the first time, a US team was eliminated from the group stage of a FIFA women's tournament. In addition, the USA are the first team to be eliminated from the group stage undefeated.
  • The 1-1 draw against the USA is North Korea's fourth draw. No team has drawn more.
  • Japan are the first team to survive the group stage without conceding a goal.
  • Brazil are the first team to make it into the knockout round with a negative goal difference.
  • Germany is the only team that has survived the group stage in all three tournaments without defeat.
  • Germany has now played against Brazil at least once in all FIFA tournaments (including the Olympic Games).
  • With France, a European team has reached and won the final for the first time.
  • For the first time, there were two teams in the final, France and North Korea, who had already played against each other in the group stage.
  • France only needed two wins in six games for the title. Never before has a team won the title with fewer wins in a FIFA women's tournament.
