Choi Yong-soo (born September 10, 1973 in South Korea ) was a professional footballer who last played for the multiple Korean champions FC Seoul . From 2006 he was manager at FC Seoul. From 2012 to 2016 he was the coach of FC Seoul. Since the end of June 2016 he has been the manager of the Chinese Association Jiangsu Suning . He represented South Korea at the 1996 Summer Olympics , the 1998 World Cup and the 2002 World Cup .

Career as a player

Youth at Yonsei University

Choi Yong-soo studied at Yonsei University from 1990 to 1993 and played for the university team during this time.

FC Seoul and stations in Japan

Choi Yong-so was signed by LG Cheetahs and played there from 1994 to 2000. During that time, he scored 44 goals in 111 games for the franchise. From 1997 to 1998 he did his military service and was loaned to Sangju Sangmu FC during that time . He moved to JEF United Ichihara in Japan after his time in Anyang . There he scored 54 goals in 73 games. In 2004 he moved on to Kyoto Purple Sanga . After only one season he went to Júbilo Iwata . There he scored only one goal in 15 games. In 2006 he returned to FC Seoul and was there in two games. After that season he ended his career as a player.

National team career

Choi Yong-so played a total of 67 international matches between 1995 and 2003, scoring 27 goals. He took part in both the 1998 World Cup in France and the 2002 World Cup in his home country. He also played at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Korea / Japan.

Career as a coach

FC Seoul

After his time as a player, he was hired by FC Seoul as an assistant coach in 2006 before briefly becoming an interim coach in 2011. He has been the club's head coach since 2012. Under his leadership, the club reached the final of the 2013 AFC Champions League and failed against Guangzhou Evergrande from China only because of the away goals rule . A year later, the club was able to fight their way through to the final of the Korean FA Cup , in which they lost the following penalty shoot-out against Seongnam FC after a 0-0 draw . Also in 2015 they reached the final of the cup; this time the franchise was able to win 3-1 against Incheon United . Jiangsu Sainty offered Yong-soo a two-and-a-half-year contract worth 5 million US dollars in July 2015, which he declined out of loyalty to FC Seoul. The 2016 season went well under his leadership. In the meantime they were first in the national league. On June 22nd, 2016 he had his last game in the Korean FA Cup against Ansan Mugunghwa FC which his team won 2-1.

Jiangsu Suning FC

On June 21, 2016, he signed a contract with Jiang's Suning FC.
