Nam Ki-il (born August 17, 1974 ) is a former South Korean soccer player who last played for Cheonan City FC . He is under contract with Jeju United FC as a coach.

Career as a player

Adolescence

Nam Ki-il was at Kumho High School from 1990 to 1993 . He then studied for four years at Kyung Hee University and played for their university team.

Football career in South Korea

Nam Ki-il signed his first professional contract after completing his university days at Bucheon SK . With Bucheon SK he was runner- up in the 2000 K League and won the Korean FA Cup . At the end of 2003 he moved to Jeonnam Dragons after 122 appearances for Bucheon SK . He didn't stay there long, however. At the end of 2004 he left the club and went to Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma . In 2006 he was able to become master with Seongnam. In the Korean FA Cup he lost the final with Seongnam. In 2007 he was runner-up in the K League with Seongnam . At the end of 2008 he also left Seongnam and went to the Korea National League club Cheonan City FC . There he became a player-coach. By 2010 he had completed 40 games for Cheonan, scoring 6 goals. At the end of 2010, he ended his football career and became a coach.

Career as a coach

From 2009 to 2010 he was employed as a player-coach at Cheonan City FC . At the end of 2010 he moved to Gwangju FC and became an assistant coach there. In 2013 he became the team's 2nd assistant coach. From 2013 he was interim trainer at Gwangju for two years. In the two years he led Gwangju FC to the play-off games in the K League Challenge 2014 and won the relegation against Gyeongnam FC . In 2015 he became the trainer of Gwangju. In 2015 he led his team to relegation. In 2016 , his team failed very close to the championship games. In 2017 he had to cope with a few departures from regular players, but he did not manage to replace the players. The club slipped into relegation battle from the start of the season. After 25 match days, the club was in 12th place, 4 points behind the relegation place. On August 14, 2017, the association released Nam Ki-il. This ended his 6-year Gwangju FC period.
