history
prehistory
Between 1996 and 2003, the Anyang LG Cheetahs football club existed in Anyang. The association was owned by LG at this time . After the 2002 World Cup , the Seoul World Cup stadium was without a primary user. Since the city government of Seoul did not want to bear the cost of the stadium alone, they contacted the KFA and discussed this problem. After great discussions between the Korean soccer fans and the KFA, a new club for the stadium failed. After the failed talks, LG and its franchise association expressed interest in the stadium. LG signaled very quickly in talks with the KFA and the Seoul city government that they wanted to move to Seoul. The city of Anyang also tried to keep the franchise in the city. Anyang LG offered to build a larger stadium for the franchise in Anyang. In the end, however, LG decided on the city of Seoul. After the announcement of the move to the city of Seoul, various fan camps protested against LG. Despite fierce protests from fans, the club moved to Seoul and changed its name to FC Seoul. Because of this event, Anyang football fans despise FC Seoul and LG to this day. At the same time, Anyang fans despise Seoul fans for their support of LG and FC Seoul.
There was no professional club in Anyang between 2004 and 2012. With the establishment of the K League Challenge , the city of Anyang decided to found a new club and let him compete there. Since 2013 they have also met their other arch-rival Suwon Samsung Bluewings . To date (as of the 2017 season) FC Anyang did not meet FC Seoul at league level.
