Suwon Derby
The Suwon Derby ( 수원 더비 ) is a football derby between Suwon FC and Suwon Samsung Bluewings . This derby took place for the first time on May 26, 2005 in the Korean FA Cup . On May 14, 2016, they met for the first time in the K League . It is the first city derby in South Korea's football history.
history
prehistory
There are two football clubs in the city of Suwon . Once with the Suwon Samsung Bluewings a professional club and with Suwon FC a former semi-professional and now also a professional club. While the Bluewings played in the K League, Suwon FC was a member of the Korea National League and played in the semi-professional league until 2012. The first three duels between the two clubs always took place in the cup. They always won the Bluewings. After Suwon FC was accepted into the professional league, there was also the possibility of meeting each other in the league.
First meetings in the league
Since Suwon FC rose from the K League Challenge to the K League Classic in 2015 , it became clear that the first city derby in the league would take place in Suwon. On May 14, 2016, they met for the first time in the league. To date, it is the first city derby in the history of South Korean football. The fans of both camps are enemies. This city derby is all about being the number 1 Suwons.
