SK Group (formerly Sunkyung) is one of the five largest conglomerates ( Jaebeol ) in South Korea . The company headquarters are in Seoul . In 2001 the group consisted of more than 60 subsidiaries in the energy, chemical, telecommunications, logistics and finance industries, had sales of 48 billion US dollars and employed around 25,000 people.
On January 10, 2012, SK Innovation and Continental Aktiengesellschaft announced that they are planning a worldwide cooperation for drives for electric vehicles. However, the battery joint venture between the two companies was given up in 2014. The reason was the immense competition in the battery business.
In December 2012, Chey Tae-won resigned as chairman and nephew of the company's founder after 14 years at the helm.
Optical and magnetic storage media ( CD-R , DVD +/- R , cassettes ) from SKC are mainly represented on the German market .
In 2019, the SK Group was the first Jaebol to introduce the four-day week.
