Iris van Herpen (born June 5, 1984 in Wamel , Netherlands ) is a Dutch fashion designer .

Life

Van Herpen, who was originally interested in dance, studied fashion design at the Akademie für Bildende Künste Arnhem ( ArtEZ ) until 2006 and then worked as an intern a. a. with Alexander McQueen in London and Claudy Jongstra in Amsterdam . In 2007 she founded her own fashion label Iris van Herpen , under which she markets both haute couture and wearable fashion for women ( prêt-à-porter ). In addition, she occasionally designs costumes for dance performances or for stage shows by artists such as Björk (e.g. for the Biophilia tour) or Lady Gaga . In July 2011 she became a guest member of the renowned Parisian Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture . Renowned fashion magazines such as Vogue , Harper's Bazaar or Dazed & Confused report on their creations. The TIME Magazine praised one of her designed in 3D printing made dress as one of the "fifty best inventions of 2011".

style

Iris van Herpen's creations are perceived in the professional world as avant-garde , innovative and experimental and located in the "border area of ​​art, design and fashion". In clothing fashion, unusual materials such as polyamide , acrylic glass or lonarite and manufacturing processes such as rapid prototyping and 3D printing are used.
