The High Museum of Art (HMA) is an art museum in Atlanta , Georgia .

The museum was opened in 1905 by the Atlanta Art Association. In 1983 an extension was designed by the architect Richard Meier and later built by Renzo Piano .

The permanent collection includes works of African, American and European art, a total of around 11,000 exhibits. The museum includes works by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo , Claude Monet , Chuck Close , Dorothea Lange , Gerhard Richter and Anselm Kiefer . The focus of the collection and the special exhibitions is modern art .

Exhibition "Picasso to Warhol"

Until April 29, 2012 the museum showed the exhibition "Picasso to Warhol" with more than 100 works by 14 important artists of the 20th century. These were compiled by the Museum of Modern Art , New York.
