The gas accident in Bucheon ( also known as 부천 LPG 충전소 폭발 사고 Bucheon LPG Chungjeonso Pokbal Sago in Korean ) occurred on September 11, 1998 with butane gas at a gas sales point in Bucheon .

The sales point had two tanks, a propane gas tank with a 29.9 t capacity and a butane gas tank with a 39.9 t capacity.

At around 2 p.m., a truck began filling the butane tank. Although the sales point's safety officer should be present during the filling process, the tank was only filled by the truck driver. At 2:06 p.m., the first witnesses noticed a gas leak. This led to a fire at 2:10 p.m., which was reported by emergency call at 2:11 p.m. At 2:25 p.m. and 2:27 p.m., two BLEVEs occurred . The butane tank was thrown 67.4 m.

The point of sale was completely destroyed except for the gas tanks that were underground. The damage also amounted to 5,750 gas bottles, 12 buildings, 12 tank trucks, 113 other vehicles and 9 fire extinguishers. In addition, there was one dead and 83 injured. The damage was estimated at $ 13 million.
