Petri Makkonen (born May 14, 1988 ) is a Finnish pool player .

Career

singles

In August 2006 Makkonen became vice European champion in 8-ball and 9-ball at the European Junior Championships . In October 2008 he was seventeenth at the US Open . He won his first Finnish championship title in 2010 in 14/1 endlessly . A year later he was able to successfully defend it.

In March 2010 he reached the final round of 10-ball and 9-ball at the men's European championship , for which he was nominated for the first time that year , in which he was eliminated in the round of 32. In August 2010 he moved into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time at the Finland Open , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Karlo Dalmatin . He also made it to the finals at the two subsequent Euro Tour stops, the Portugal Open 2010 and the Costa Blanca Open 2010 . At the European Championships 2011 , he moved into the semi-finals in 14/1 after victories against defending champions David Alcaide and Oliver Ortmann , where he lost 102: 125 to the eventual European champion Tomasz Kapłan . In the 14/1 endless competition, he reached the second round. A few days later he made it to the quarter-finals of the Italy Open for the first time on the Euro Tour and lost there to Niels Feijen . In June 2011 he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 9-Ball World Championship without a win. At the EM 2012 he reached the quarter-finals in 8-ball, in which he was defeated 4-8 by the later European champion Mario He . In 2012 he was also the Finnish champion in the disciplines of 8-ball and 10-ball.

In April 2013 Makkonen did not get past the round of 32 at the European Championships , which he reached in three disciplines. A month later he won his first Euro Tour medal at the Austria Open , after being eliminated in the semifinals against eventual tournament winner Niels Feijen. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2013 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In the 14/1 Endless, he became Finnish champion for the third time in 2013. At the EM 2014 he reached the quarter-finals in 14/1 endless and the semi-finals in 10-ball. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2014 , however, he was eliminated with just one win in the preliminary round. He was also the Finnish 8-ball and 10-ball champion in 2014. In February 2015 he achieved his best result at a world championship at the 10-Ball World Cup; he reached the round of 32, in which he was defeated by the Indonesian Ricky Yang 4:11. At the EM 2015 he reached the last sixteen in 10-ball. In June 2015 he won the German Open with a 9-3 win against Konrad Juszczyszyn from Poland . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2015 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In January 2016, he finished seventeenth at the World Chinese 8-Ball Masters . At the EM 2016 , after being knocked out endlessly in the round of 32 in the 14/1, he made it into the finals in the 10-ball competition, in which he was only marginally defeated 7: 8 by the Spaniard David Alcaide. He then reached the quarter-finals in 8-ball and was eliminated from the 9-ball competition in the round of 64.

At the World Cup of Pool Makkonen took part so far five times. There he always formed the Finnish team together with Mika Immonen . After they were eliminated in the first round in 2011 , they won the tournament in 2012 with a 10-8 win against the Poles Karol Skowerski and Wojciech Szewczyk . They then reached the semi-finals in 2013 and 2014 and the quarter-finals in 2015 .

In the Team World Cup Makkonen was twice part of the Finnish team, with which he in 2010 and 2012 reached the knockout stages.

With the Finnish national team, he became vice European champion in 2013 and third place in the European Championship in 2012 and 2016 .

With Broadway Billiards Vantaa he became Finnish team champion in 2013 .
