Tomasz Kapłan (born January 14, 1984 ) is a Polish pool player . In 2011 he was European champion in the 14/1 endless discipline and is the Polish record champion with 15 titles .

Career

singles

Tomasz Kapłan started playing billiards in 1995 . At European Youth Championships he won four medals in individual competitions. In 2000 he was third in the 8-ball of the pupils, in 2001 he finished third in the 8-ball of the juniors and in 2002 he was, in the final against the Swede Erik Weiselius , junior European champion in 14/1 endless and vice European champion in 8-ball. In addition, he was with the Polish team in 2000 European student champion and 2002 junior European champion.

In September 2001 Kapłan won his first medals at the Polish men's championship . He took third place in 8-ball and became Polish champion in 9-ball by beating Paweł Rogalski in the final . A year later he won the bronze medals in 8-ball and 14/1 endless. In 2003 he became Polish champion in the 8-ball and 9-ball disciplines. A year later he managed to defend his 8-ball title by beating Jacek Walter in the final . In the 8-ball competition of the European Championship in 2005 he made it to the final, in which he lost to the Dutchman Alex Lely . In July 2005 he took part in the 9-ball world championship for the first time and was eliminated in seventh place in his group in the preliminary round. At the Polish championship in 2005 he won the title in 8-ball for the third time in a row and for the first time the title in 14/1 endless.

At the 9-Ball World Cup 2007 Kapłan was eliminated without a win in the preliminary round. In December 2007, after remaining without a title in the previous year , he was again Polish champion in the disciplines 8-ball and 14/1 endless. He was able to successfully defend both titles in 2008 , in the 14/1 Endless he was four times in a row Polish champion until 2010 . In September 2008 he retired from the first round of the 10-ball world championship . In February 2009, he won his first Euro Tour medal at the French Open ; he reached the semi-finals and was defeated there by the eventual winner Niels Feijen 7: 9. At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2009 and the 9-Ball World Cup in 2011 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In March 2011 he reached the final of the 14/1 endless competition of the European Championship . There he defeated the Italian Fabio Petroni with 125-17 and became the first Polish player to become European champion. In December 2011 he became the first Polish 10-ball champion in the final against Mariusz Skoneczny .

At the 8-Ball World Cup in 2012 , he made it into the finals for the first time at a World Cup. In the round of the last 64 he lost 7-9 against Tōru Kuribayashi . At the EM 2012 he was knocked out endlessly in 14/1 as defending champion in the round of 16 against Mario He . In the 8-ball competition he reached the quarter-finals, in which he was defeated by the Ukrainian Artem Koshovyi 7: 8. At the Polish championship in 2012 he won the title in 14/1 for the sixth time. At the EM 2013 he reached the final, which he lost to Nick van den Berg with 1: 125 . In August 2013 he made it into the final of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open . He lost to his compatriot Mateusz Śniegocki 6: 8. At the 9-Ball World Championship in 2013 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Polish championship in 2013 , Kapłan was without a title for the first time since 2006, he only won the bronze medal in the 10-ball.

At the 2014 European Championships he reached the semi-finals in 14/1 endlessly and lost there against defending champion Nick van den Berg. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2014 , however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In December 2014, he became Polish 8-ball champion for the sixth time with an 8-2 win in the final against Marek Kudlik . At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2015 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the EM 2015 he won the bronze medal in the 14/1 endlessly after losing in the semifinals to the eventual European champion Nick van den Berg. In September 2015 he made it to the final round of the 9-ball world championship for the first time, in which he was defeated by the eventual vice world champion Shane van Boening in the round of 64 with 3:11. At the Polish championship in 2015 he won the bronze medal in 9-ball. At the EM 2016 he reached the quarter-finals in 14/1 endlessly and was eliminated again against Nick van den Berg. A year later he reached the final of the 14/1 endless competition and was defeated by Niels Feijen with 13: 125. In addition, he reached the second round in 8-ball and the quarter-finals in the subsequent Euro Tour tournament, the Portugal Open 2017 .

Kapłan has so far participated in the World Cup of Pool once. In 2013 , he and Radosław Babica formed the Polish team that was eliminated in the first round by Aloysius Yapp and Chan Keng Kwang from Singapore .

With the Polish national team, he was European champion in 2015 and third in 2017 . At the World Team Championship he was part of the Polish team three times, with whom he reached the quarter-finals in 2010 and 2014 and the second round in 2012 .
