Mateusz Śniegocki (born January 3, 1985 in Poznan ) is a Polish pool player . In 2013 he was European champion in the 10-ball discipline .

Career

singles

Mateusz Śniegocki started playing billiards in 1999 . At the European Youth Championship , he won three medals in individual competitions. In 2001 he became vice European champion for pupils in 9-ball . In 2002 he was in the final against Vilmos Földes Junior European Champion in the 9-ball and third in the 8-ball competition of the juniors. He was also vice European champion in 2001 with the Polish school team and European champion in 2002 with the junior team.

In November 2002 he won his first medal in the Polish men's championship with third place in the 14/1 endless competition . A year later he reached the final in 14/1 endlessly and lost there against Karol Skowerski . In 2005 , he won his first national men's championship title in 9-ball by beating Michał Lichodziejewski in the final . At the Polish championship in 2006 he won the titles in the 8-ball and 9-ball disciplines.

In July 2008 he won his first Euro Tour medal at the Austrian Open ; he reached the semi-finals and was defeated there by the Englishman Imran Majid 3: 9. At the European Championships in 2008 he reached the round of 16 in the 9-ball competition and was eliminated from Majid there. In his first participation in a men's world championship, at the 10-ball world championship in 2008 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round.

At the EM 2009 Śniegocki reached the round of 16 in the disciplines 14/1 endless and 9-ball. At the Netherlands Open 2009 he lost in the semifinals against eventual tournament winner Oliver Ortmann . At the 10-ball world championship in 2009 he was eliminated without a win in the preliminary round. In December 2009 he won his third Euro Tour medal with third place at the Costa del Sol Open . A few days later, with a final victory against Mariusz Skoneczny, he became Polish 9-ball champion and runner-up in the 8-ball and 10-ball disciplines .

In March 2010, Śniegocki won his first medal at the European Championships . He reached the final of the 9-ball competition and was defeated there by the German Ralf Souquet just 8: 9. At the 8-ball World Cup in 2010 , he made it to the round of 32, in which he lost to Andreas Roschkowsky . A few days later he moved into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament at the Italy Open for the first time, in which he had to admit defeat to Daryl Peach 7: 9. In 2011 he won the bronze medal at the Austria Open and the Polish championship title in 9-ball.

In June 2012, Śniegocki made it into the finals of the 9-ball world championship for the first time . In the round of 64 he was eliminated with 5:11 against eventual world champion Darren Appleton . In 2012 he was nominated for the first time for the World Pool Masters . At the tournament held in Kielce in October 2012 , he reached the final after victories against Ralf Souquet, Alex Pagulayan and Dennis Orcollo , in which he lost 6: 8 against Karol Skowerski.

At the 2013 European Championships , Śniegocki, who last participated in the European Championships in 2010, won three medals. After he was eliminated in the round of 32 in the 14/1 endless competition, he won his first European title with an 8: 3 final victory over Konstantin Stepanow . In the subsequent competitions in 8-ball and 9-ball, he was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual European champion. In August 2013, the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open won a Euro Tour tournament for the first time with an 8: 6 final win against his compatriot Tomasz Kapłan . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2013 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Polish championship in 2013 he was runner-up in 10-ball after a final defeat against Wojciech Sroczyński .

At the EM 2014 he won the bronze medal in 14/1 endless. In 8-ball and 9-ball he reached the quarterfinals. At the beginning of 2015, he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 10-Ball World Cup without a win. Two months later he won the Portugal Open with a 9-3 win against Marcus Chamat . At the China Open 2015 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against eventual tournament winner Albin Ouschan . At the World Pool Masters 2015 he was defeated by Darren Appleton from England in the round of 16. In September 2015 he reached the round of 64 at the 9-Ball World Cup .

At the 2016 European Championships , Śniegocki won the bronze medal in 14/1 endlessly after being eliminated in the semifinals against Konstantin Stepanow. In August 2016 he reached the round of 64 at the 9-ball world championship , in which he also lost to Stepanov. A few days later he achieved his third tournament victory on the Euro Tour with a 9: 4 win against Joshua Filler in the final of the Albanian Open . At the Kuwait Open 2016 he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In December 2016, he made it into a final for the tenth time at the Polish championship . He lost the final in 10-Ball, however, 4-7 against Radosław Babica .

The 2017 European Championship started for Śniegocki with three early losses. Only in 9-Ball did he reach the last sixteen and was eliminated from Alexander Kazakis . For the first time since 2009 he stayed in a European Championship without a podium placement in the individual. The China Open 2017 was more successful for him , where he made it to the quarter-finals for the first time, in which he had to admit defeat to the German Thorsten Hohmann 6:10. At the Kremlin Cup 2017 he was eliminated in the round of 32 against eventual tournament winner David Alcaide . After not getting past the sixteenth finals on the Euro Tour for a year, he reached the semifinals at the Klagenfurt Open 2017 , in which he was defeated 6: 9 by the record winner Ralf Souquet.

From the 2011/12 season Śniegocki played at BV Mörfelden-Walldorf , which had previously been promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time . In his first season with Hessen he was used twice and won all four individual games. In the following two seasons he was mainly used in the regional league team. After remaining without a Bundesliga appearance in the 2012/13 season , he was part of the first team three times in the 2013/14 season and won three of his six individual games.

Śniegocki has participated in the World Cup of Pool six times so far . In his first three participations he formed the Polish team together with Radosław Babica . After they were eliminated in the first round in 2007 , they were subject to the Germans Ralf Souquet and Thomas Engert in the round of 16 in 2008 . In 2009 they made it to the quarterfinals, in which they lost to the Filipinos Ronato Alcano and Dennis Orcollo . In 2014 he reached the round of 16 with Karol Skowerski , in 2015 and 2017 he reached the round of 16 with Wojciech Szewczyk .

He has been part of the Polish team three times at the World Team Championship . He reached the quarter-finals in 2010 and 2014 and the second round in 2012 . At the 2017 European Championship he was third with the Polish national team.

Collision

In July 2017, he took part for the first time in the World Games , which were held in Wroclaw that year . In the three-cushion competition , shortly before the start of the tournament, he received the starting place of the former world champion Choi Sung-won , who canceled his participation. In his first round match, Śniegocki had to admit defeat to the American Pedro Piedrabuena with 10:40.
