The 2013 European pool championship was a pool tournament which took place from April 10 to 21, 2013 in the Grand Hotel Metropol in Portorož and was organized by the European pool association EPBF . After 1992 it was the second pool billiards championship in Slovenia .
The disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball , 10-ball and 14/1 were played out endlessly in the categories men , women and wheelchair users . However, the wheelchair users did not play a 14/1 endless competition. About 220 players from 32 nations were represented. The European team champions were also determined for the men and women.
The most successful player was the Irishman Fred Dismore , who won two gold medals. Jasmin Ouschan was the best player with two gold and two bronze medals . For the first time in a pool European championship, Germany did not win a medal. Ina Kaplan and Sebastian Staab reached the quarter-finals, Kaplan in 9-ball and endless in 14/1, Staab in 8-ball. In addition, the German men's team reached the quarter-finals, but lost there against the Netherlands, the eventual European champions.
Medalist
format
Initially, all categories were played in the double knockout system . This means that you can lose a game (but then you have to survive the longer way through the losers round) without being eliminated from the tournament immediately. A second defeat led to the end of the tournament in any case. This game mode was used until there was only a certain number of players in the tournament (32 for men, 16 for women and 4 for wheelchair users). From then on it went in the knockout system (meaning: every defeat leads to immediate elimination) until the final. A game for 3rd place was not played.
