The Pool Championship 1996 was the European Pool Billiard Association EPBF in Békéscsaba material discharged snooker tournament . After 1993 the European Pool Billiards took place for the second time in Hungary .
The disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball and 14/1 endless as well as the European championships of the teams for women and men were played out.
Defending champion Ralf Souquet managed to win the final against Oliver Ortmann in the men's 14/1 . In the 8-ball final, Souquet also met Ortmann as last year's winner . However, Ortmann won, who also became 9-ball European champion by beating Thomas Engert in the final . Engert won the bronze endlessly in 14/1 and bronze in 8-ball. The other bronze medals went to Rico Diks , Šandor Tot , Jørn Kjølaas and Mika Immonen .
In the women's category, last year's finalist Monja Kielhorn managed to win the final against Franziska Stark and thus for the first time ever become European champion in 14/1. In the 8-ball final, Kielhorn, also as the reigning vice European champion, lost to Stark. The Swiss Sabina Dederding , who defeated Franziska Stark in the final , became the 9-ball European champion . Dederding also won endlessly in 14/1 and bronze in 8-ball. The German Michaela Rank also won two bronze medals. Kielhorn and the Swiss Christine Feldmann each took third place once.
The German team, consisting of Thomas Engert, Oliver Ortmann, Ralf Souquet and Rolf Alex , became European champions by beating Austria in the final. It was her sixth straight title since 1991 . Switzerland and Denmark won bronze. In the women's category, Germany (Franziska Stark, Monja Kielhorn and Michaela Rank) won the title for the third time in a row. In the final, she defeated Switzerland. Norway and Austria took third place.
