Mika Immonen (born December 17, 1972 in Paddington , London , England ) is a Finnish pool player .

Career

His first major successes were winning the European championship in 14 and 1 endless in 1998 and the 2001 World Cup in 9-ball .

He also reached the final at the prestigious US Open in 9-Ball in 2001, but had to admit defeat to Corey Deuel . At the first World Cup in 14 and 1 endless 2006 he reached the semifinals. Together with Markus Juva , he reached the final of the 2nd World Cup of Pool in 2007 , but then lost to Team China.

In 2008 Immonen reached second place in the World Pool Masters after losing the final to Alex Pagulayan . At the first official 10-Ball World Cup in 2008 , he reached the quarter-finals. In October he finally won the US Open in 9-ball for the first time, after being in the final in 2001.

Another great success of his career is currently three tournament victories at the Euro Tour . There are also victories at smaller tournaments such as the Florida Predator Open (2002), the Philippines Open (2003) and the Atlanta Open (2004).

In 2008 and 2009 he won the US Open in 9-ball and is therefore the first non-American player to win this tournament more than once and after Nick Varner (1989 & 1990) only the second player to do so Successful tournament victory twice in a row. Another great success of his career was winning the WPA 10-Ball World Cup in 2009 . In January 2016 he won the Turning Stone Classic with a 13-2 win in the final against Erik Hjorleifson .

In 2012, he and Petri Makkonen won the World Cup of Pool in the final against the Poles Karol Skowerski and Wojciech Szewczyk . In 2013 and 2014 they were eliminated in the semi-finals and in 2015 in the quarter-finals.

He has been part of the European team at the Mosconi Cup 15 times so far , most recently in 2013 . In 2003 and 2008 he was also recognized as an MVP . His nickname in the billiards scene is The Ice Man .

Awards

In 2014, Immonen became the first Finnish player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Billiard Congress of America .
