Karol Skowerski (born May 9, 1984 ) is a Polish pool player . He won the World Pool Masters in 2012 .

Career

Skowerski won nine medals at the European Youth Championships and in 2002 the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships .

In 2006 Skowerski reached the quarter-finals of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time at the Italy Open . However, he was defeated by the Dutchman Niels Feijen . At the German Open 2007 he moved back into the knockout round, but lost his first game there against the German Thorsten Hohmann . In June 2008 he finished 17th in 8-ball at the European Championships . In 9-Ball and in 14/1 Endless he came in 33rd place. At the Costa del Sol Open at the end of the year he made it to the round of 16, which he lost to Ralf Souquet . In 2009 he achieved ninth place in 9-ball, his best result to date at a men's European championship. In the 8-ball he finished 17th. At the Netherlands Open 2009 he made it to the round of 16, but lost it to the Dutchman Roy Gerards .

At the EM 2010 Skowerski reached the quarter-finals for the first time. He lost to the Swede Marcus Chamat in 8-Ball . In 9-Ball and 14/1 Endless, he finished 17th and 33rd respectively. In the last sixteen of the Italy Open he lost to the eventual finalist Mateusz Śniegocki . After he was eliminated at the Finland Open in the round of sixteen against the Czech Roman Hybler , he managed to move into a Euro Tour semi-final for the first time at the Portugal Open 2010 . But he lost this against the eventual winner of the tournament Chris Melling with 1: 9. At the subsequent Costa Blanca Open , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Dutchman Nick van den Berg . At the 2011 European Championships , his best placings were 17th in 9-ball and 10-ball , and in 8-ball, he was 33rd. Four months later, he was defeated by Belgian Noel Bruynooghe in the sixteenth finals of the German Open . At the Treviso Open 2011 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against eventual tournament winner Mark Gray .

At the 8-ball world championship in 2012 Skowerski achieved his best result so far at a world championship with the knockout round of 16. After he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against van den Berg at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open and 7-8 at the German Open in the round of 16 against Artem Koshovyi , he managed to win the World Pool Masters by beating his compatriot Mateusz Śniegocki in the final 2012 to be won. At the EM 2013 Skowerski met Śniegocki again in the 10-ball quarter-finals. However, Śniegocki won 8: 3 and was then European champion. In 8-ball and 9-ball Skowerski took 17th place at the European Championships. At the Austria Open he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Spaniard David Alcaide , at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open 2013 already in the sixteenth-finals against the Estonian Denis Grabe . At the World Pool Masters 2013 Skowerski was eliminated in the first round, the round of 16, against Chris Melling. At the Castel-Brando Open and the Treviso Open 2013 he was defeated in the quarter-finals by the Englishman Imran Majid and against David Alcaide.

At the Italian Open 2014 Skowerski managed to get into a Euro Tour final for the first time, but lost it to Nick van den Berg 5: 9. At the Austria Open 2014 he was eliminated again by van den Berg, but this time already in the quarter-finals. At the China Open he finished 17th in 2014 , but at the 9-Ball World Cup he was eliminated without a win in the preliminary round. At the 2015 European Championship , Skowerski made it into the final in 8-ball and 9-ball, in which he was defeated by Niels Feijen and Francisco Díaz-Pizarro, respectively . He also reached the quarter-finals in 10-Ball and the last 16 in 14/1 endlessly.

Skowerski has taken part in the World Cup of Pool three times so far . After he and Radosław Babica were eliminated in the quarter-finals against the eventual finalists Thailand in 2011 , he reached the final with Wojciech Szewczyk in 2012 . However, they lost this against the Finns Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen with 8:10. In 2014 he and Mateusz Śniegocki formed the Polish doubles, which were eliminated in the round of 16 against Finland.

In 2010 and 2014 he took part in the World Team Championship with the Polish national team . In 2010, the team lost to the Philippines in the quarter-finals, and in the 2014 quarter-finals to the Chinese team.
