Denis Grabe (born February 22, 1990 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian pool player .

Career

singles

In August 2006, Grabe won the bronze medal in the pupils' 9-ball at the European Youth Championship . Two years later he took part in the men's European Championship for the first time and was eliminated in the preliminary round in 14/1 . In April 2009 he finished third at the Blackpool Open in Finland. A few days later he made it to the last sixteen at the European Championships in 8-ball , which he lost to Imran Majid . After failing to get past the last 32 in 9-ball at the 2010 European Championship , Grabe won the Interpool 10-Ball Open in April 2010. In July 2010, at the Austria Open , he made it into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time , in which he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Philipp Stojanovic . At the Portugal Open 2010 he reached the second round.

At the EM 2011 , Grabe reached the semi-finals in 8-ball and was defeated there by the later European champion Dominic Jentsch with 2: 8. In June 2011 he took part in the 9-ball world championship for the first time and was eliminated from the preliminary round without a win. In 2012 he made it to the 14/1 endless semi-finals at the European Championships , which he lost to Niels Feijen . At the Kremlin Cup 2012 he moved into the final, in which he had to admit defeat to Poland's Mateusz Śniegocki 6-8 . In July 2013, he finished ninth at the US Open in 10-ball . In November 2013 he was eliminated in the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup against the eventual winner Thorsten Hohmann .

In May 2014 Grabe won the Austria Open and, for the first time, a Euro Tour tournament after defeating the Greek Nikos Ekonomopoulos 9-1 in the final . After he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the 9-Ball World Cup , he won the Slovenian Open in the final against the Dutchman Marc Bijsterbosch and was the eighth player to win two consecutive Euro Tour tournaments. In October 2014, he finished 33rd in 9-ball at the US Open . A little later he reached the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup .

In February 2015, Grabe reached the round of 64 at the 10-Ball World Cup and lost to Ruben Cuna from the Philippines . At the 2015 European Championships he made it into the round of 32 in 8-ball, 10-ball and 14/1 endlessly. In September 2015, after victories against Oliver Ortmann and Li Hewen, he reached the sixteenth-finals of the 9-ball World Cup and eliminated there against Mike Dechaine . A month later he reached the quarterfinals of the Dutch Open and 17th place at the US Open .

At the EM 2016 he reached the semi-finals in 8-Ball and was eliminated from the Spaniard Francisco Sánchez . In the 9-ball competition he also made it to the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by the German Joshua Filler 5: 9. In August 2016, he reached the quarter-finals of the 9-ball world championship for the first time and lost there 3:11 against Cheng Yu-hsuan from Taiwan . A few days later he lost to eventual tournament winner Wu Jiaqing in the round of 32 at the China Open . In October he reached the round of 16 at the Dutch Open and the American 14.1 Championship . At the Kuwait Open 2016 , however, he was eliminated in the round of 32. In November 2016 he reached the round of 16 at the Kremlin Cup , which was held as a world ranking tournament for the first time this year, and only just lost to Ralf Souquet (7: 8).

At the World Chinese 8-Ball Masters 2017 , Grabe was thirteenth. In February 2017, he won his third Euro-Tour medal at the Italian Open , after being eliminated in the semifinals against Ruslan Tschinachow . At the 2017 European Championships , he reached a European Championship semi-finals for the fifth time in 10-Ball, which he lost like the first four; on his 27th birthday he had to admit defeat to the Swede Christian Sparrenlöv with 9:10. A little later he reached the quarter-finals in his first tournament participation in the World Pool Series and lost to tournament organizer Darren Appleton . In his second tournament , however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Kremlin Cup 2017 he was defeated in the quarter-finals by defending champion Alexander Kazakis . In October 2017 he reached the semifinals of the Klagenfurt Open , where he lost 7: 9 to Sebastian Ludwig after a 5-1 lead. At the American Straight Pool Championship he reached the round of 16. A little later he was eliminated in the preliminary round of the final tournament of the World Pool Series 2017 . At the Treviso Open 2017 he made it into the semi-finals for the second time in a row and for the fifth time on the Euro Tour, in which he had to admit defeat to eventual tournament winner Wiktor Zieliński 2: 9.

From 2005 to 2016, Grabe was a total of 26 Estonian champions in the juniors and men.

So far, Grabe has participated in the World Cup of Pool three times and formed the Estonian team with Erki Erm . After reaching the round of 16 in 2011 , they were eliminated in the first round in 2013 and 2015 .

With the Estonian national team he took part in the Team World Cup in 2010 and was eliminated in the preliminary round.

In the 2011/12 season he played for the German Bundesliga club BV Mörfelden-Walldorf . He was used twice and won all four individual games.

Russian billiards

Grabe first took part in a world championship in Russian billiards in 2007 . At the Free Pyramid World Cup in Kiev , however, like the other two Estonian participants, he was eliminated in the preliminary round after losing to Eduard Galijanz and Aljaksandr Kaszjukawez .

snooker

In snooker , he reached the semi-finals of the open Ukrainian championship in 2007 , in which he had to admit defeat to defending champion Serhiy Issajenko 3-0. In 2008 he won a tournament in the Ukrainian cup competition by beating Jewhen Novossad in the final 3-2 . In 2009 he reached the sixteenth finals at the U19 European Championship .
