Marc Bijsterbosch (born December 31, 1993 ) is a Dutch pool player from Emmen . In 2017 he became European champion in the 10-ball discipline .

Career

singles

In 2008 and 2009, Bijsterbosch was a three-time Dutch school champion in the disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball and 14/1 endless . In August 2008 he won his first medal at the European Schoolchildren Championship when he reached the semi-finals in 8-ball and was defeated 3: 6 by Poland's Wojciech Szewczyk . In the juniors (U19) age group he won the silver medal in 14/1 endless and the bronze medal in 8-ball at the 2011 European Youth Championship . He lost the 14/1 endless final 82: 100 against Bence Varga . At the Junior World Championship in 2011 he reached the semi-finals and was only just defeated by the eventual world champion Marek Kudlik with 10:11.

In November 2012 he made it into the final round of the European Open for the first time on the Euro Tour and was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the eventual tournament winner, his compatriot Nick van den Berg . In 2013 Bijsterbosch was nominated for the men's European championship for the first time . He reached the round of 64 in the 14/1 endless competition and the round of 32 in the 10-ball , in which he lost to the eventual European champion Mateusz Śniegocki . On the Euro Tour he reached the round of 32 at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open and the North Cyprus Open in 2013. At the tournament in Kyrenia he was eliminated against the eventual winner Konstantin Stepanow . At the Derby City Classic 2014 , Bijsterbosch finished ninth in the side events in the bank pool and 9-ball and finished 25th in the bank pool main tournament. At the Italian Open 2014 he reached the round of 32 and was eliminated against the German Marco Dorenburg . In August 2014, he finished fifth at the Longoni Benelux Open . A few days later he won his first Euro Tour medal at the Slovenian Open . After victories against Daniele Corrieri , Nikos Ekonomopoulos , Petri Makkonen and Mats Schjetne , he moved into the final, in which he lost 4: 9 to the Estonian Denis Grabe .

In February 2015, Bijsterbosch took part in a men's world championship for the first time. At the 10-Ball World Cup , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. A little later he reached the round of 32 at the Italian Open . At the 2015 European Championship , his second participation in the European Championship, he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 14/1 endless competition. He then reached the round of 64 in 10-ball and the round of 32 in 8-ball, before moving into the semi-finals in 9-ball and only narrowly defeated (8: 9) to the later European champion Francisco Díaz-Pizarro . In the summer of 2015 he reached the round of 32 at the China Open and the Austrian Open . At the 9-Ball World Championship in 2015 , he reached the round of 64, in which he lost 4:11 to Chang Yu-Lung . In addition, he reached the sixteenth finals at the Dutch Open and the Treviso Open in 2015 . At the end of the year he became the first Dutch champion in 9-ball .

In January 2016, Bijsterbosch finished thirteenth at the World Chinese 8-Ball Masters . A month later he reached the round of 16 at the Italian Open . At the EM 2016 he made it endlessly in the 14/1, in which he lost with 22: 125 against Mateusz Śniegocki. He was then eliminated from the competitions in the 10-ball, 8-ball and 9-ball disciplines in the round of 64. At the North Cyprus Open 2016 he reached the round of 32. In November 2016, he reached the quarter-finals at the Kuwait Open and was defeated by the Taiwanese Ko Pin-yi 7:11. A month later he succeeded in defending his title in the Dutch 9-ball championship with a 9-0 final win over Richard Eijmberts .

At the 2017 European Championships , he was knocked out endlessly in the preliminary round in 14/1. In the 10-ball competition, after defeating Jakub Koniar , Niels Feijen and Francisco Sánchez , among others , he reached the final, in which he became the first Dutch 10-ball to win 10-6 against Christian Sparrenlöv-Fischer from Sweden - became European champion. In 8-Ball he also reached the final, but there he lost to Jani Uski from Finland with 7:10. In the 9-ball competition he was eliminated in the round of 32 against Jakub Koniar. At the subsequent Euro Tour tournament, the Portugal Open , he reached the quarter-finals, which he lost 8: 9 to David Alcaide .

Bijsterbosch has been playing for the German Bundesliga club BC Oberhausen since 2015 . In his first season with Oberhausen he was runner-up.

With the Dutch national school team, Bijsterbosch was third in the European Championship in 2007 and 2008, and in the 2009 final against Germany, European Champion. With the junior team, he reached third place at the 2011 European Youth Championship .

In 2015 he became vice European champion with the Dutch national team, but remained without commitment. At the 2017 European Championship , he reached the quarter-finals with the team.
