Jani Uski (born March 18, 1990 ) is a Finnish pool player . In 2017 he became European champion in the 8-ball discipline .

Career

In March 2012 Jani Uski took part in the European Championship for the first time . He reached the round of 32 endlessly in 14/1 and lost this against the Pole Tomasz Kapłan . In the three other disciplines ( 8-ball , 9-ball and 10-ball ) he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2015 he made it to the semi-finals in 8-Ball, where he was defeated by the later European Champion Niels Feijen with 2: 8. In addition, Uski reached the round of 32 in 14/1 endlessly and the round of the last 64 in 10-Ball. At the Finnish championship in 2015 he won his first title in 9-ball with a 9: 7 final win over Markus Juva . At the 2016 European Championships he reached the round of 32 in 14/1 and 10-ball. In the same year he became Finnish champion in 10-ball and 14/1 endless. At the 2017 European Championships , he was eliminated again in these disciplines in the round of 32. In the 8-ball competition, however, he managed to make it into the finals , including victories against Denis Grabe , Francisco Díaz-Pizarro and Francisco Sánchez . In the final, he defeated the Dutchman Marc Bijsterbosch , who had won the 10-ball title two days earlier, 10: 7 and was the first Finnish 8-ball European champion. After Mika Immonen ( 1998 , 14/1 endless), he was the second Finn to win a men's European title. At the subsequent 9-ball competition he was eliminated in the preliminary round, as well as at the Portugal Open 2017 , the Euro Tour tournament that followed the European Championship .

With the Finnish national team, Uski finished third in the European Championship in 2012 and 2016 and vice-European champion in 2017 after a final defeat against Austria.
