The 2009 European Pool Billiards Championship was a pool tournament that took place from April 16 to 25 at the Wellness & Sporthotel Alpina in St. Johann im Pongau . The European pool association EPBF was responsible for the organization .

The city with almost 10,000 inhabitants hosted the European Championship for the second time after 1985 . More than 300 of the best athletes from a total of 34 nations took part. The venue held about 800 spectators.

The pool disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball and 14/1 were played endlessly in the categories men , women and wheelchair users ; whereby the wheelchair users only the titles in 8-ball and 9-ball; but not play endlessly in 14/1.

The most successful player was the Austrian Jasmin Ouschan with gold medals in 8-ball and 9-ball.

Schedule & Format

First of all, the titles in 14/1 , which were scheduled for the period from April 16 to April 18, were played endlessly . This was followed by the competitions in the 8-ball discipline, which were played between April 19 and 21. The conclusion was then 9-Ball, which was on the program between April 21st and 25th.

Initially, all categories were played in the double knockout system . This means that you can lose a game (but then you have to survive the longer way through the losers round) without being eliminated from the tournament immediately. A second defeat led to the end of the tournament in any case. This game mode was used until there was only a certain number of players in the tournament (32 for men, 16 for women and 4 for wheelchair users). From then on it went in the knockout system (meaning: every defeat leads to immediate elimination) until the final. A game for 3rd place was not played.
