The Pool Championship 1989 was the European Pool Billiard Association EPBF in Schaan oriented snooker tournament . It was the only pool billiards championship in Liechtenstein so far .
The disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball and 14/1 were played out endlessly . In addition, the European champions of the teams were determined, in addition to the men, now for the first time among the women.
Oliver Ortmann became European champion in 14/1 with a final victory against defending champion Per Anda . Ralf Souquet defeated last year's European champion Mikael Hallgren in the 8-ball final . Thomas Engert won the 9-ball title. He also met the defending champion, Tom Storm , in the final . It was the first time that all three men's disciplines were won by Germans. The Austrian Albin Ouschan senior and the Swiss Rolf Hollenstein each won a bronze medal.
In the women's finals , the Swede Louise Furberg was European champion in 14/1 endlessly against Sylvia Buschhüter . In the 8-ball the Austrian Gerda Hofstätter won the final against the Swiss Jacqueline von Kanel . As in the previous year, Franziska Stark became European champion in 9-ball by beating the Swede Helena Thornfeldt in the final . The Swiss Virena Kadler and the Germans Klara Lensing and Tanja Eichhorn each also won one bronze.
The German men's team consisting of Thomas Engert, Oliver Ortmann and Ralf Souquet managed to become European champions for the third time in a row by beating Austria in the final. In the women's category, Sweden became European champions, Germany took second place, Austria and Switzerland won bronze.
