The 2017 European Youth Pool Billiards Championship was a pool tournament that took place from July 30th to August 7th 2017 at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst in Leende . After 2010, the municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant hosted the youth continental championship organized by the European pool association EPBF for the second time .
In the disciplines 8-ball , 9-ball , 10-ball and 14/1 endless , a total of 13 competitions were played in the age groups juniors (U19), school children (U17) and juniors (U19), in which 161 athletes from 27 countries took part .
The most successful player was the Russian Kristina Tkatsch , who, as in the previous year, won all three junior competitions.
The European Championships were more balanced among the juniors. For the fourth time since the introduction of the 10-ball discipline in 2010 , no player has won two individual competitions. The most successful was the Russian Fjodor Gorst with a gold and silver medal each , who became U19 European champion for the first time by winning the 8-ball in the final. The German Patrick Hofmann , who had won the titles in 14/1 endless, 8-ball and 9-ball last year, was now victorious in the 10-ball competition, whose defending champion Maxim Dudanez was no longer eligible to participate due to age, and won bronze in 8 ball. Kevin Schiller (14/1 endless) and Jan van Lierop (9-Ball) became U19 European champions for the first time.
With the students, Sanjin Pehlivanović and Wiktor Zieliński , who were defending champions in two disciplines, met in three of the four finals. After Zieliński had defended his title in 14/1 endlessly, the Bosnian Pehlivanović won in 8-ball and 9-ball. While he was victorious in 9-ball for the second time after 2014 , he became 8-ball European champion for the third time in a row, making him the first player in the U17 age group to win a European title in three consecutive years . Previously, Dmitri Schkudow had won his first medal in an individual competition by winning the 10-ball title.
The German junior national team became European champions for the fourth time in a row with a 2-1 win against Poland. In the student competition, however, the German team was eliminated in the semifinals against Poland and had to surrender the title to the Finnish team after two victories in a row, which won the final 2-1.
Russia was the most successful nation with five gold, two silver and one bronze medals, followed by Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina . Most of the medals went to Poland , but there was only one European title among the twelve podium places, so that they finished fourth in the medal table, right in front of the hosts.
venue
In January 2017, the EPBF announced that the 2017 European Youth Championship would be held in the Golden Tulip Jagershorst in Leende . The 2010 European Youth Championship and several Euro Tour tournaments had already taken place in the hotel . As has been customary since 2012, a Euro Tour tournament and the Senior European Championship as well as - for the first time this year - the U23 Junior European Championship were held at the same venue after the European Youth Championships . For the one month duration of these billiards competitions, a tent was erected on the roof of the hotel's event hall in which nine pool tables were set up, in addition to the fourteen tables in the hall.
mode
All competitions are played in the double knockout system until only a certain number of participants remain and then continued in the knockout system . The individual competitions for juniors and schoolchildren are played in knockout mode from the round of 32 onwards, and for team and junior women competitions from the quarter-finals.
