Jewhen Oleksandrowytsch Novossad ( Ukrainian Євген Олександрович Новосад , English transcription: Evgen Novosad , also: Yevhen Novosad ; born  September 3, 1990 in the Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian - Israeli billiards player . He became world champion in the combined pyramid discipline in 2014 .

Nowossad began playing pool as a teenager . In 2005 he was European student champion and four times Ukrainian champion . From 2012 he also played international tournaments in the billiard variant Russian billiards and just two years later he won the world title in the combined pyramid. In addition, he achieved individual successes at national level in carom and snooker .

Novossad, who came from Dnipropetrovsk , moved to Kiev in 2013 . He has lived in Tel Aviv since 2019 and competes for Israel in international tournaments.

Career

Pool

At the age of 14, Novossad reached third place in the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup in 2004, after defeating Serhiy Issajenko among others , he was eliminated in the semifinals against Oleksandr Kasyanov . At the European Youth Championship in 2005 , two years after Artem Koschowyj had reached the final for the first time, he became the first Ukrainian to win a European title. In the final of the 9-ball competition for students (U17), he defeated Bartlomiej Czapla from Poland . In December 2005 he was the first Ukrainian men's champion . He made it into the final in all three disciplines and met Artem Koschowyj twice, to whom he had to admit defeat endlessly in 14/1 (76: 100). In the 8-ball, however, he prevailed against Koschowyj 8: 7 and in the 9-ball Novossad won 9: 4 against Jewhen Talow .

In 2006, Novossad reached the last sixteen at the Defense Minister's Cup in Moscow , where he was defeated 4: 9 by Tony Drago, a professional snooker . In the same year he took part in the Junior World Championship in Sydney for the first time and was only eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual finalist Ko Pin-yi . In 2007 he won the first two tournaments of the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup and in the same year he reached the quarter-finals three times in the international Russian Cup. In July 2007 he moved into the semifinals of the European 9-Ball Games in Kiev , where he was defeated by the Russian Ruslan Tschinachow . At the European Junior Championships 2007 in Willingen he reached the final in 8-ball, which he lost to Nico Wehner , and won the bronze medal with the Ukrainian junior national team. At the end of the year he reached the second round at the Junior World Championships (9-Ball) at the same location .

In 2008 Nowossad took part in the Euro Tour . He achieved his best result at his first tournament, the Italy Open 2008 , when he reached the penultimate round of the first tournament phase with three wins. In the following three appearances, he won one game each. After winning the All-Ukrainian 8-ball tournament in Kiev in April, he became national junior champion in the disciplines 14/1 endless and 9-ball as well as runner-up in 8-ball in July. In his last participation in the Junior European Championship , he made it to the quarter-finals again in 8-ball. After defeating Alexander Kazakis and Dominic Jentsch , among others , he lost to Norwegian Mats Schjetne (6: 7) in the last eight . At the Best of the East Ukraine Open 2008 he reached the round of 16 as one of the four best Ukrainians, in which he lost to Adam Skoneczny . At the Russian Cup in 2008 he made it into the final twice and in the final tournament he was eliminated in the round of 12 against Yegor Plischkin . At the Ukrainian Cup he reached the quarter-finals. At the end of the year he managed to reach the final of the Ukrainian championship in 8-ball and 9-ball, but this was followed by a defeat against Artem Koschowyj.

In 2009 Nowossad was nominated for the first time for the European Championships in St. Johann im Pongau . After he had failed endlessly in 14/1 against the Austrian Albin Ouschan , he reached the sixteenth finals in 8-ball and 9-ball, in which he lost to Roman Prutschai and Vegar Kristiansen , respectively . In the same year he won a Ukrainian cup tournament for the third time against Arsen Petrosov and was ninth in the Russian cup final. At the end of the year he won the Ukrainian championship with final victories against Maksym Issajew (100: 41) and Andrij Shchudlo (7: 6) the titles in 14/1 endless and 8-ball.

At the EM 2010 Nowossad was knocked out endlessly without a win in 14/1 and then reached the final round three times. After he was eliminated in the first 10-ball competition in the sixteenth-finals against Martin Kempter , he reached in 8-ball with a victory against Ruslan Tschinachow for the first time a European Championship round of 16, which he lost 5-8 against Francisco Sánchez . In the 8-ball, he was eliminated in the round of 32 against Craig Osborne . A little later he won the Ukrainian 8-Ball Cup. In May 2010 he was the first Ukrainian to take part in the World Pool Masters , for which he had qualified at a qualifying tournament in Saint Petersburg . At the invitation tournament in Las Vegas , the field of participants was expanded from 16 to 64 players this year, he reached the round of 32 by beating last year's third Shane van Boening (9: 8) and Kim Ga-young (9: 4) , in which he had to admit defeat to the Japanese Naoyuki Ōi 5: 9. In the same year he reached the semifinals of the Best of the East Ukrainian Open and the final of the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup final and was subject to Artem Koschowyj. At the national championship 2010 he was eliminated as a two-time defending champion in 14/1 endlessly in the preliminary round against Vitaly Pazura and lost the 8-ball final with 2: 7 against Koschowyj.

At the beginning of 2011, Nowossad dropped out of the preliminary round in all four disciplines during his third European Championship participation . A little later he succeeded in the national 8-ball cup as defending champion again in the final, in which he had to admit defeat Koschowyj 7: 8. At the Kremlin Cup 2011 he just missed the last sixteen with a 7: 9 defeat in the decisive preliminary round match against Ruslan Tschinachow. At the end of the year he reached the final in 14/1 at the Ukrainian championship and lost again just barely against Koschowyj (96: 101).

In March 2012, Novossad won the Ukrainian 14/1 Endless Cup for the first time in the final against Vitaly Pazura. A little later, his fourth and final European Championship followed in Luxembourg , where he reached a second round after 2010. In 14/1 he lost after victories against Witali Pawluchin , Petri Makkonen , Milos Verkic and Senarip Azar in the round of 16 to the eventual European champion Nick van den Berg (23: 125). In the three following competitions he won only one game in total. At the Kremlin Cup 2012 he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In December 2012 he took part in the Ukrainian championship for the last time . After he was eliminated three times in the quarter-finals, he moved into the final in 10-Ball by beating defending champion Jaroslaw Wynokur in the semi- final, in which he was defeated by record champions Artem Koschowyj 5-8.

In 2013, Novossad secured his fourth tournament victory at the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup. At the final tournament he lost the final against Vitaly Pazura. In 2014 he won a tournament of the national 10-ball cup. In 2015 he was eliminated from the Kremlin Cup in the preliminary round (7: 8) against defending champion Ruslan Tschinachow, who then won the tournament.

After not playing an international pool tournament for four years, Nowossad took part again in the Kremlin Cup in 2019 , where he was eliminated without a win after defeats against Ivar Saris and Konstantin Stepanow .

Russian billiards

After reaching the round of 16 at the Ukrainian Cup in 2010, Novossad first took part in the World Cup in Sudak in September 2012 and reached the round of 16, in which he lost 5-6 to Artur Pivchenko . A little later he reached the quarter-finals of the Ukrainian championship and lost 3: 5 against Dmytro Biloserow . In October he played a tournament abroad for the first time in Russian billiards with the World Cup in the Free Pyramid . Due to his lack of international experience, his nomination to the Ukrainian World Cup squad was controversial. At the World Cup in Minsk , however, he defeated, among others, Sergei Kryschanowski , Dsjanis Kolassau and Zuxriddin Hoshimov and only had to admit defeat to three-time world champion Kanybek Sagyndykow 2: 6 in the quarter-finals . A month later he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup .

In early 2013, Novossad reached the quarter-finals of the Ukrainian championship ( combined pyramid ) and made it to the semi-finals for the first time in the Ukrainian Cup. In April he became Ukrainian runner-up in the Free Pyramid after a 3: 7 defeat in the final against Wladyslaw Kossohow and after a defeat against Serhiy Petrasch he was runner-up in Kiev Oblast . In June he won the Kiev Cup. At the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup 2013 he reached the quarter-finals, in which he lost 4-6 to Alexander Tschepikow . He reached the semifinals at the Bastau Cup, which was then also held in Almaty , as well as the Leonid Matwa Cup in Donetsk and the Ostrowsky Open Cup. In September 2013 he won his first World Cup medal; he moved into the semi-finals in the Free Pyramid , where he was defeated by eventual world champion Nikita Liwada with 2: 8. A few weeks later he made it into the final of the Kremlin Cup , in which, however, he had to admit defeat to the 2012 world champion Wladislaw Osminin 2: 5. At the end of the year he reached the quarter-finals at the St. Petersburg Open and lost to eventual tournament winner Sergei Kryschanowski.

After finishing second again in the Kiev Oblast championship, Novossad reached a quarter-finals for the first time in the World Cup in April 2014 in Moscow . A little later he even made it to the final at the third World Cup, in which he lost significantly to Wladislaw Osminin (0: 6). At the European Championships , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In August 2014 he took part in the World Cup for the fifth time and the first in the combined pyramid. In Cholponata , Kyrgyzstan , after winning against former world champion Oleksandr Palamar as well as Jauhen Kurta and Aleksandr Sidorov , he moved into the final, in which he became world champion by beating Nikita Liwada 6-3. He is the fourth Ukrainian World Cup winner in Russian billiards and, after Oleksandr Palamar (2007) and Jaroslaw Tarnovezkyj (2013), the third in the Combined Pyramid. A few weeks after winning the title, Novossad lost his opening game against Ysat Ratbekow ( 5-6) at the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup . At the Kremlin Cup 2014 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Älichan Qaranejew . At the end of November 2014 he reached the quarter-finals for the third time in a row at the Free Pyramid World Cup and this time lost 6-3 to Wladislaw Osminin.

In February 2015, Nowossad reached the round of 16 as defending champion at the Combined Pyramid World Cup , in which, however, Nikita Liwada managed to take revenge for the final defeat (2: 5). Two months later he took third place at the superfinal of the World Championships , an invitation tournament in Surgut , after a semi-final defeat by Sergei Kryschanowski (1: 4, 2: 4). After he was eliminated from the European Championship (Free Pyramid) in the round of 16, he moved into the quarter-finals for the second time at the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup and lost 7-2 to Nikita Liwada. At the Kremlin Cup 2015 he had to admit defeat to his compatriot Artur Piwtschenko in the round of 128 (0: 4). A little later he won the Scherbaschow Cup in Nizhny Novgorod with a 6: 5 final victory over Oleksandr Palamar . In November 2015 he was only just defeated in the round of 16 of the World Cup final tournament to the eventual World Cup winner Nikita Liwada (5: 6). At the end of the year he was eliminated from Andrej Hluschanin in his tenth and last World Cup participation (Free Pyramid) in the round of 32 against Andrej Hluschanin (2: 7). In November 2016, Nowossad took 33rd place at the Empire Cup.

After a three-year break, Nowossad again took part in an international tournament in Limassol in December 2019 . At the Admare Cyprus Cup he finished fifth after he was barely eliminated by the reigning world champion Semjon Saizew (3: 4).

Collision

After he had reached a round of 16 at the Ukrainian snooker cup competition in 2007 , Nowossad moved into the final at the CIS Cup in Kiev in 2008 , in which he lost 3-2 to Denis Grabe . In 2009 and 2011 he made it to the semi-finals and lost to the eventual tournament winner Serhiy Issajenko . In November 2011 he reached the quarter-finals in his first participation in the Ukrainian championship , in which he lost 3-0 to Jaroslaw Wynokur . In 2013 and 2014 he won two more bronze medals in the national cup.

After moving to Israel, Novossad took part in the European Championship for the first time in 2019 . In his group of the preliminary round he managed to get into the final round as third-placed with wins against Marco Giuliano and Andrei Orzan as well as defeats against Florian Nüßle and Serhij Issajenko. In the round of the last 80, however, he had to admit defeat to former professional Leo Fernandez clearly 4-0.
