Shane van Boening (born July 14, 1983 in Rapid City , South Dakota ) is an American pool player .

Career

He celebrated his first major international successes in 2007. In addition to the (unofficial) Predator World 10-Ball Championship , he won the prestigious US Open in 9-Ball . At his first World Cup in 9-Ball in 2007 he made it to the round of 32 and at the World Cup in 8-Ball in 2008 to the quarter-finals.

At the first official 10-Ball World Cup in 2008 , he made it to the round of 16. Together with Rodney Morris , he won the 3rd World Cup of Pool in 2008 . At the World Pool Masters 2009 he made it to the semifinals in his second participation. At the 9-ball World Cup 2011 he made it to the quarter-finals.

In 2012 van Boening won the US Open 9-Ball again and was able to successfully defend this title in 2013 . He also won the final at the US Open 8-Ball on July 28, 2013 against Carlo Biado 13:11. In 2014 he reached the final of the World 14.1 Tournament and was defeated there by Darren Appleton from England . In October 2014, he won the US Open 9-Ball again, making him the only player to win this tournament three times in a row. He also won the World Pool Masters 2014 by beating Nikos Ekonomopoulos in the final . In 2015 , he defeated Darren Appleton in the final, making it the only player to date to successfully defend the title at the World Pool Masters. In September 2015 he reached the final of the 9-Ball World Cup and was defeated there by Ko Pin-yi from Taiwan with 11:13. In 2016 he moved into the final again and lost 6:13 against the Austrian Albin Ouschan . In October 2016, he won the US Open for the fifth time with a 13: 9 final win against Chang Jung-Lin from Taiwan , drawing level with record winner Earl Strickland .

So far he has represented the USA twelve times at the Mosconi Cup , most recently in 2018 , and won it twice ( 2009 , 2018 ).

His nickname on the billiards scene is The South Dakota Kid . He is 98% deaf.
