The US Open 2016 (officially US Open 9-Ball Championships in 2016 ) were a snooker tournament in the discipline 9-Ball , which from 16 to 22 October 2016 at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel in Norfolk , Virginia , in the United States took place. It was the 41st edition of the US Open.
The American Shane van Boening won the US Open for the fifth time with a 13: 9 final victory over the Taiwanese Chang Jung-Lin . He drew level with the previous record winner, his compatriot Earl Strickland . Third place went to Jayson Shaw from Scotland .
The defending champion was the Taiwanese Cheng Yu-hsuan , who was eliminated without a win after defeats against Hsieh Chia-chen and Antonio Lining .

The tournament was played in a double knockout system , with only one final set being played. The goal of the game was eleven games in the main tournament and thirteen in the final. It was played with a winner break.
