Ko Ping-chung (also Ko Pin-chung ; born September 18, 1995 ) is a Taiwanese pool player . He became world champion in the 10-ball discipline in 2019 .

Career

Ko Ping-chung started playing billiards at the age of 10 . In November 2010 he first attracted international attention when he reached the final of the All Japan Open . However, he lost this against the German Thorsten Hohmann . In May 2011 he reached the finals of a men's world championship for the first time at the 10-ball world championship and only narrowly lost 8: 9 to Darren Appleton in the round of 64 . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2011 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In July 2013, Ko came 25th at the US Open in 8-Ball and at the US Open in 10-Ball. In November he succeeded in becoming Junior World Champion by beating Poland's Sebastian Batkowski 8-5 in the final .

At the 9-ball World Cup 2014 Ko Ping-chung was eliminated in the preliminary round. A month later he finished second in the CSI Invitational 10-Ball Championship and won the CSI Invitational 8-Ball Championship in the final against Shane van Boening . At the Manny Pacquiao Cup, he and his older brother Ko Pin-yi took third place in the 10-ball doubles . In February 2015, Ko reached the semi-finals of the 10-Ball World Cup and was eliminated from his brother, who then became world champion. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2015 , he also reached the semi-finals and lost to Shane van Boening with 1:11. In November 2015 he reached the finals at the Steinway Classic, which he lost to his compatriot Chang Yu-Lung . At the 9-Ball World Championship in 2016 he was eliminated in the quarterfinals at 10:11 against Canadian Alex Pagulayan .

In July 2019, Ko Ping-chung became world champion in 10-ball in Las Vegas , replacing his brother Ko Pin-yi. In the final he prevailed 10: 7 against the German Joshua Filler .

In 2011, Ko Ping-chung and Ko Pin-yi formed the Taiwanese team, which was eliminated in the semifinals of the World Cup of Pool against the Thais Nitiwat Kanjanasri and Kobkit Palajin .
