WPA 10 Ball World Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The WPA 10-Ball World Cup (officially: WPA World 10-Ball Championship ) is that of the World Pool-Billiard Association discharged world championship in billiards discipline 10-Ball .

history

Raya Sports had already hosted the WPA 9-Ball World Championships in 2006 and 2007 in the Philippines, but then decided from 2008 to host the World Cup in the 10-ball discipline instead of 9-ball . The 9-ball World Cup was then suspended for two years and did not take place again until 2010.

The first edition of the 10-Ball World Cup took place in the Philippine capital Manila . A total of US $ 400,000 in  prize money was paid out, of which US $ 100,000 went to the winner. The 2009 World Cup took place in Manila again. However, the prize money was subsequently reduced to US $ 262,000 (US $ 60,000 for the winner).

After a four-year break, there was a new edition in 2015 , this time in General Santos in the south of the Philippines . After an edition planned for 2018, which was to take place again in Manila, was canceled, Predator and Cue Sports International announced in December 2018 that they would be reintroducing the 10-Ball World Championship together with the WPA. Las Vegas has been set as the venue for the years 2019 to 2021 .

The 128 participating players were initially reduced to 64 players in the double knockout system , who then played off the world champion in the knockout system .
