The World Cup in 9-Ball 2011 was the twentieth edition of this tournament and took place between June 25 and July 2, 2011 in Doha ( Qatar ). The usually annual world championship is organized by the WPA ( World Pool-Billiard Association ).

World champion was the Japanese Yukio Akakariyama with a 13:11 victory in the final against the Filipino Ronato Alcano .

mode

A total of 128 players took part in the tournament.

In the preliminary round, the number of players was reduced from 128 to 64. The game was initially played in a double knockout system . This means: After the first game, the players were divided into a winning round and a losing round. Whoever was in the winning round only had to prevail in one game against another player who had won in the first round to get to the final round. In the losers round, however, you first had to assert yourself against another player who lost in the first game and then win against a loser from the winning round.

Even if this system is relatively complicated, it guarantees every player to be able to lose a game in the preliminary round without having to be eliminated from the tournament immediately. The second lost game within the preliminary round will in any case lead to elimination from the tournament.

In the final round it was then played in the knockout system , so every defeat led to elimination from the tournament.
