Mohamad Asfari (born February 22, 1983 ) is a Syrian pool player from Aleppo .

Career

Mohamad Asfari started playing billiards in a club run by his parents . From 2011 to 2013 he was Syrian champion . At the 9-ball world championship in 2011 he lost his opening match 6-9 against the Spaniard Francisco Sánchez . He then defeated the Saudi Arabian Omar al-Omari 9-0 before being eliminated by a 5-9 defeat against Hsu Kai-lun . In 2012 and 2013 he won the West Asian Championship .

During the civil war in Syria in 2013 Asfari fled to Germany via Turkey , Greece , Macedonia , Serbia and Croatia . After fleeing for two months, he first lived in refugee accommodation in Heiligenstadt , and later moved to Dortmund .

In the 2015/16 season he started playing billiards at the 1st PBC Erfurt . His first major success in Germany was winning the Thuringian state championship in the 14/1 endless discipline in April 2016. In the final, he defeated Ernst Schmidt with 125: 90. Since 14/1 is hardly widespread in Syrian billiards, he had only gained his first competitive experience in this discipline a few weeks earlier on his league debut.

Team career

Asfari was a Syrian international before fleeing to Germany.

In the 2015/16 season he played with the second team of the 1st PBC Erfurt in the association league. For the 2016/17 season he moved to PBC Schwerte 87 , with whose second team he plays in the 2nd Bundesliga .
