The WPA 8-ball World Cup 2007 (officially: WPA Damas World 8-Ball Championship in 2007 ) was the third staging of the World Pool-Billiard Association hosted world championship in billiards discipline 8-Ball . It took place on March 1st and 8th, 2007 in the Fujairah Bustan Center in Fujairah ( United Arab Emirates ).

World champion was Ronato Alcano of the Philippines with an 11: 8 victory in the final against his compatriot Dennis Orcollo . Defending champion Wu Chia-Ching was eliminated in the round of 32 against Alexander Dremsizis .

regulate

A total of 64 players from 27 nations took part in the tournament.

In the preliminary round, the number of players was reduced from 64 to 32. The game was initially played in double K. o . system . This means: After the first game, the players were divided into a winning round and a losing round. Whoever was in the winning round only had to win one game against another player who had won in the first round to advance to the final round. In the losers round, on the other hand, you first had to assert yourself against another player who had lost in the first game and then win against a loser from the winning round.

Even if this system is relatively complicated, it guarantees every player to be able to lose a game in the preliminary round without having to be eliminated from the tournament immediately. The second lost game within the preliminary round will in any case lead to elimination from the tournament.

In the final round it was then played in the knockout system , so every defeat led to elimination from the tournament.
