Satoshi Kawabata ( Japanese 川端 聡 , Kawabata Satoshi ; born March 7, 1970 ) is a Japanese pool player .

Career

At the 1998 Asian Games , Satoshi Kawabata won the bronze medal in 8-ball doubles together with Kunihiko Takahashi . In March 2000 he won the Japan Open by beating the American Johnny Archer in the final . In July 2001 Kawabata reached the round of 32 at the 9-Ball World Championship . At the World Games 2001 he reached the quarter-finals and was defeated by the German Ralf Souquet with 9:11. In May 2003 he finished fifth at the BCA Open. At the 9-Ball World Cup 2003 , Kawabat was eliminated in the round of 64. He then reached the round of 32 in 2004 and was eliminated again in the round of 64 in 2005 . In 2005, Kawabata was invited to the World Pool Masters for the first time , but lost in the first round to the eventual finalist Rodney Morris .

At the Asian Games in 2006 he won the gold medal in the 8-ball in the final against Antonio Gabica . In March 2007 he reached the round of 32 at the 8-Ball World Cup . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2007 he made it to the round of 16, losing 9:11 to the Filipino Joven Bustamante . After he was eliminated again in the round of 32 at the 8-Ball World Cup in 2008 , Kawabata reached the round of 16 of the 10-Ball World Championship in October 2008 and was defeated there by the eventual world champion Darren Appleton 8: 9. A month later he reached the quarter-finals of the Japan Open. In 2009 he reached the last sixteen at the World Games and was eliminated from the 10-Ball World Cup in the round of 32. After he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the 9-Ball World Cup 2013 , Kawabata reached the round of 16 of the Japan Open 2013 and was there defeated by the eventual finalist Chang Jung-Lin . In 2014 he was eliminated from the Japan Open in the sixteenth finals. In September 2015 he moved into the round of 64 at the 9-ball world championship , in which he lost 7:11 to the Austrian Albin Ouschan , whom he had defeated 9: 8 in the preliminary round. At the Japan Open 2015 he lost to Han Haoxiang in the round of 16 .

Kawabata has participated in the World Cup of Pool five times so far . After he was in the round of 16 with Masaaki Tanaka in 2006 , he formed the Japanese team with Naoyuki Ōi in 2007 and 2008 , which reached the semi-finals in 2007 and the quarter-finals in 2008. He then retired in 2009 with Hayato Hijikata and 2012 with Naoyuki Ōi in the round of 16.

2010 Kawabata was part of the Japanese team that reached the round of 16 at the World Team Championship .
