Albin Alois Ouschan (also: Albin Ouschan junior ; born August 14, 1990 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian pool player . He became world champion in the 9-ball discipline in 2016 and 2021 and European champion in 14/1 endless in 2016 .

Childhood and family

Ouschan was born in 1990 as the son of the multiple Austrian pool master Albin Ouschan senior in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee , where he also grew up. His parents ran an inn there, which was also the venue for the PBC Eintracht Klagenfurt , and where he began to play billiards . His older sister Jasmin is also a pool player and became 10-ball world champion in 2010 .

Albin Ouschan is the father of a daughter (* 2015).

Career

singles

Ouschan achieved his first major success in the youth field in 1999 when he won the Austrian toddler championship in the 8-ball discipline . From 2001 to 2003, five more championship titles followed in this age group. In 2001 he won his first medal at the European Youth Championship with third place in the pupils' 9-ball . He was in the final against 2002 Kevin Becker student European champion in endless 1/14 and won his first Austrian of four league titles with the students. At the 2003 European Youth Championship , he defended his title in the final against Hubert Łopotko .

In 2004 Ouschan became Austrian men's champion for the first time in 9-ball . He also won his first two national junior titles and was third in the junior world championship and European student champion with the Austrian team. A year later he won five titles at Austrian championships; He was twice Austrian champion with the students, in 8-ball with the juniors and won the titles in the men in 8-ball and 14/1 endlessly. At the European Youth Championships in 2005 he won gold in 14/1, his last medal among the students.

In 2006 Ouschan became Austrian men's master in all three disciplines. In April 2006 he made it into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament at the Italy Open for the first time , where he was eliminated in the round of sixteen against Ralf Souquet . At the Austria Open 2007 he reached the round of 16 for the first time and lost it with 9:10 against Tomasz Kapłan from Poland . In 2007 he was also the national champion in men's 9-ball as well as in 8-ball and 14/1 endless for juniors and won the gold medal in 14/1 endless and with the team at the Junior European Championship .

In August 2008 Albin Ouschan took part in the men's European championship for the first time and reached the quarter-finals in 14/1 endlessly, which he only narrowly lost to the eventual European champion Ivica Putnik . With the Austrian team he was also again junior European champion . In September 2008 he took part in a world championship for the first time. However, the 10-Ball World Cup ended for him with only one win after the preliminary round. At the Austrian championship in 2008 Ouschan managed to defend his title among the men. In the 9-ball he was also the Austrian junior champion for the last time. In 2009 Ouschan reached the European Championship eighth-finals in 14/1 endlessly and became Austrian 9-ball champion . At the EM 2010 , Ouschan did not get past the round of 32. In October 2010 he won the title in the 14/1 endless against Maximilian Lechner at the Austrian championship in the final .

In March 2011, Ouschan reached the quarter-finals in 8-ball at the European Championships and was defeated by the Estonian Denis Grabe . In July 2011 Ouschan made it to the round of 16 of the Austria Open and a few days later won the Austrian championship in 14/1 in the final against Mario He endlessly. After Ouschan was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Hungary Open 2011 , he came past the round of 16 for the first time on the Euro Tour at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open 2012 ; After victories against the former world champions Darren Appleton and Chris Melling , he finally reached the final, in which he defeated the Swiss Dimitri Jungo 9: 3 and thus won an international billiards tournament for the first time. A few weeks later he reached the quarter-finals in 9-ball at the European Championships . In October 2012 he made it into the final of the North Cyprus Open , which he lost to Albanian Nick Malai 5-9 . He also finished 33rd at the 2012 China Open and 17th at the US Open .

In February 2013, Ouschan won his third medal on the Euro Tour with bronze at the Italy Open after he was eliminated in the semifinals against Jungo. At the EM 2013 , Ouschan reached the quarter-finals endlessly in both 9-ball and 14/1, but lost to later European champions Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg . A month later, he finished 17th at the China Open. At the World Games 2013 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the American Johnny Archer . In November 2013 he lost in the semifinals of the Castel Brando Open against the Italian Daniele Corrieri . In 2013, Ouschan finished ninth in the Ultimate 10-Ball Championship.

In April 2014 Ouschan reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in 9-ball and was defeated there by the eventual winner Niels Feijen. After he was eliminated in the preliminary round in the previous year , he managed to move into the final at the 9-Ball World Cup in 2014 after victories against Oliver Ortmann and Roman Hybler , which he lost to the Dutchman Feijen at 10:13.

In January 2015, Ouschan was eliminated from the 10-Ball World Championship in the round of 64. At the European Championships he reached the quarter-finals in 8-ball and lost this against the later European champion Niels Feijen. In July 2015, Ouschan won the China Open with an 11: 8 victory in the final against the Canadian John Morra and was the first Austrian to make it to first place in the world rankings . At the 9-Ball World Cup 2015 , Ouschan narrowly escaped the preliminary round with a 9: 8 win over Irsal Nasution . He then defeated Satoshi Kawabata before knocking out Wu Jiaqing in the round of 32 . After the World Cup, he fell back to fifth place in the world rankings. In October 2015 he won the Dutch Open 2015 with a 9-2 win in the final against Imran Majid and thus a Euro Tour tournament for the second time.

At the 2016 European Championships in St. Johann im Pongau , Ouschan entered the final for the first time in 14/1 with a semi-final victory against defending champion Nick van den Berg. A few days after winning the World Cup, Ouschan was eliminated from the Albanian Open in the round of 16. At the China Open 2016 and the Dutch Open 2016 , he was eliminated as defending champion in the round of 32. At the tournament in Shanghai he was defeated by the Taiwanese Ko Pin-yi 6:11, in Heeze-Leende he lost 5: 9 to Mark Gray . In January 2017 Ouschan finished thirteenth at the World Chinese 8-Ball Masters . Team career

With the PBC Eintracht Klagenfurt , Ouschan was Austrian champion in the 2005/06 season . After he had achieved second place in the 2. Bundesliga in 2009 and 2010 and third place in 2011 with the club , he moved to PBC Billardtempel Linz , with whom he was third in the Bundesliga in the 2011/12 season . He then returned to Eintracht, with which he took first place in the second division, now renamed Regionalliga , in the 2012/13 season . In the following season he was Austrian runner-up with the PBC Billardtempel Linz.

Since 2013 he has been playing for the German Bundesliga club BSV Dachau , with whom he was runner- up in 2014 and 2015 and German champions in 2016 , 2017 and 2018 .

Ouschan has represented Austria eight times at the World Cup of Pool ; In 2012 he reached the round of 16 with Mario He as a doubles partner, in 2013 he lost together with his sister Jasmin Ouschan in the first round.
