Nikolaos "Nick" Malai (born April 9, 1987 ) is an Albanian pool player living in Greece .

Career

In February 2008, Malai made it into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time at the French Open . In the round of 32, however, he was eliminated against the Swede Marcus Chamat . After he did not get past 49th place in 9-ball in his first European Championship in 2010 , Malai reached the round of 16 in 9-ball at the 2011 European Championships and lost there 3: 9 to later European champion Nick van den Berg .

In January 2012, Malai finished third at the Paris Open. At the EM 2012 he reached the semi-finals in 9-Ball and lost there 6: 9 against the eventual European champion Francisco Díaz-Pizarro . In July 2012, Malai took part in the 9-Ball World Championship for the first time and moved into the round of 64, in which he was eliminated by Ralf Souquet . In September 2012 he reached the 17th place at the China Open . A month later he made it past the round of 32 for the first time at a Euro Tour tournament at the North Cyprus Open . After victories against Daryl Peach , Jasmin Ouschan and Dominic Jentsch , he finally made it into the final, in which he defeated the Austrian Albin Ouschan 9: 5.

In April 2013 he won the bronze medal in 10-ball at the European Championships after losing 4-8 in the semifinals to the Russian Konstantin Stepanow . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2013 he reached the round of 64 and was eliminated from John Morra at 9:11 . In February 2015 he made it into the finals of the Italian Open for the second time on the Euro Tour, in which he lost 2: 9 to Niels Feijen from the Netherlands .
