The WPA 9-ball World Cup 2012 was the 21st of the WPA discharged World Cup 9-Ball - Pool . It took place for the third time in Doha , Qatar , from June 22-29, 2012 . The venue was the al-Sadd Sport Club .
The Englishman Darren Appleton became world champion with a 13:12 victory in the final against the Chinese Li Hewen . It was Appleton's second world title after 2008 in 10-ball and his first world title in 9-ball.
The defending champion was the Japanese Yukio Akakariyama , who was eliminated in the round of 32 against the German Thorsten Hohmann . Ralf Souquet reached the semi-finals as the best German, in which, however, he lost to Li. Hohmann and Dominic Jentsch also reached the round of 16.
A total of US $ 276,000 in prize money was distributed. The world champion received $ 40,000 of this.

128 players took part in the tournament. In the preliminary round it was played in the double knockout system . This means: After the first game, the players were divided into a winning round and a losing round. Whoever was in the winning round only had to prevail in one game against another player who had won in the first round to get to the final round. In the losers round, however, you first had to assert yourself against another player who lost in the first game and then win against a loser from the winning round. 64 players qualified for the final round, which was played in the knockout system .
