Chao Fong-Pang ( Chinese : 趙豐邦; born September 15, 1967 in Kaohsiung ) is a Taiwanese pool player . He became 9-ball world champion in 1993 and 2000 .

Career

In 1993 Chao was able to prevail in the World Cup final against the German Thomas Hasch and thus became the first Asian pool world champion. In 1995 he won the International Challenge of Champions. After finishing ninth at the 1998 9-ball World Cup , Chao won the gold medal in 8-ball , bronze in 9-ball and together with Yang Ching at the Asian Games in December 1998 . shun the silver medal in 9-ball doubles. In 2000 he finished seventh at the BCA Open. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2000 , he became world champion for the second time by beating the Mexican Ismael Páez in the final.

In 2001, Chao won the International Challenge of Champions again. At the 9-ball World Cup , he was eliminated in the last 64 round. At the World Games 2001 he was eliminated in the round of 16. At the Tokyo 9-Ball Event, he came third. In 2002 and 2003 Chao was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 9-Ball World Cup, in 2004 he was fifth. In 2005 he won the Challenge of Champions for the third time, making him the record winner of this tournament. At the 9-ball world championships in 2005 , 2006 and 2007 he lost in the sixteenth finals; 2006 against his compatriot Fu Che-Wei , 2007 against the Philippine Roberto Gomez .

After Chao had finished 33rd at the China Open 2009, he was eliminated from the 10-Ball World Cup in the sixteenth-finals against the Spaniard David Alcaide . In 2011 he finished fifth in the Beijing Open and ninth in the Japan Open . At the 9-Ball World Cup he was eliminated in the round of 32 in 2012, and in 2013 in the round of 64 against the Chinese Wu Chia-Ching .
